The poor AI is trying it's hardest. In the last update we got it working overtime.

Currently establishing a beach head for your invasion on a major npc world can be extremely hard.And the ai still isnt really using their bombers,so it can be harder still.

I've noticed lately with world generation the cities are more localized to a single region. Does that make it easier for an invasion than when it was very spread out? I imagine there should be at least one location that's optimal for invasion due to low supply or a similar deficiency in that area.

It depends on the faction.A pirate faction with little to fight back with it can mean you win the war at that one spot,if you manage your invasion properly,because its likely the capital will move to a city right there.I just had this happen with a pirate world with a cluster of like 8 cities all right next to the capital.I won the war before i even took all 9 cities, because the new capital was always one of the other 8.

With a major faction it makes it harder ,as they can hold those cities in a cluster damn near forever with the huge and constant stream of troops they will send in to defend, as well as the huge stream of troops they will send after your forces.It also makes landing near the city clusters much more dangerous, as theres likely to be art and air right in the area which will pound your troops and landers as soon as you unload the troops.
