GR v.697 - Space Pirates

So we've added Space Pirate factions to the game. The implementation is still a little rough, but it's working. Some thoughts
  • They can spawn anywhere in your system. We think they should probably spawn "some distance away".
  • Each inhabited system gets one pirate faction
  • They have a stronger starting position, but they don't really expand
  • The intention is that players have full justification vs. pirates and the pirates will never negotiate
  • There will be a game option to play without the pirates.
I'm also planning for us to add some messages that communicate some of what's happening, some storyline for the pirates, but we would probably leave that out in MP games, just let them exist there.

Thoughts? Feedback?

I currently think they should spawn as a "moon" like planet to the player homeworld. They have a much stronger and fun effect on early game with a very close spawn.And as ive said in another post,it seems you can go a long time without having them become aggressive as it currently stands.
