[MOD] Historical defensive terrain

Post by Arahatree »

Hello to all,

The type of terrain is one of the main aspects to consider in war strategy. As a consequence, this mod emphasizes the defensive characteristics of certain types of terrain, like dense forest or rough dessert, etc. because in vanilla the difference is barely noticeable.

Now, with this mod, playing vs Afghanistan is more realistic. Before in vanilla mountains were not close combat and didn't even have high values of defense. With this mod the Afghan mountains will provide the 9 years war that will cripple the economy of the Soviet Union. Are you now going to take the Afghan challenge and be triumphant where soviet generals failed??

Since in this mod now mountains are close combat, they have low visibility and troops (mujahideen) hidden in the mountains can ambush soviet convoys or units, just like it happened in history.

All mountains are the same, so the same will happen for the caucasus mountains that stopped the Otoman empire to invade Russia from the south back in ww1.

In this mod not all mountains are close combat, for example a plateau is not close combat, so there are high ground that doesn't hide the troops, but still will have high defensive values. If someone argues with historical facts that they should also be close combat, i can do it that way too.
