A problem with Multi

Post here to arrange or discuss multiplayer games. Remember when planning a game to state the time the lobby will be open, the time the game will start and the time zone you are in and if you are going to play through Gamespy or direct IP address.

A problem with Multi

Post by The Khan »

I want to play a multi with my friend:

I have wireless and a connection to my landlady's wireless server, and my friend has a net connection of his family's server. I'm in Denmark, and he is in US of A.

How can we play? IP number doesn't seem to help.

Are one or both of you behind firewalls?

Most routers have a built-in firewall. You'll have to specify which ports to open up so the computers can freely receive data.

How do I open a port for gaming, and how do I make the game use that specific port?

The game does not support being told what port to use. It uses the Microsoft DirectX networking code so should be using the port that Microsoft specifies. We did not have much luck hosting behind routers. Like many games it was a limitation of our multiplayer engine.
