Red, I DLed mIRC and opened sr2010 on efnet. In case anyone wants to talk "real-time" about details of the game.

Ok ...due to some problems Rhjyyz is having I went back and checked my firewall and for some reason svchost was set to restricted. not sure how Red got on or if that program is not necessary. Anyway it is 9pm eastern US time. The game will be up for a couple hours. please let me know if anyone else has any connection problems.

Is it still up? It's not showing up for me.

I assume the little "searching" dots never stop moving, correct?

11:30 pm est. Just sat down after some alone time with my wife. My pc has a habit of timing out my internet connection when I don't do anything with it. Sorry 'bout that. (yeah I rebooted just before posting)
Red, Rhjyyz, and Tkobo made it on, so I'm going to hope that means everything is pretty hunky dory.

As it stands now, I'll open the lobby at 7:30 pm est Tuesday. Game to start at 8pm or shortly thereafter. The map (unless majority requests differently) will be Adriatics. If anyone needs a later start please post asap so we can try to accommodate.

Hope to see y'all then. :D

Adriatics would never work for such a large multiplayer game. There are three regions with $1bn daily budgets while the rest have $10-100m budgets, so it's a three-player map with everyone else simply watching... I'd think more on the scale of India-Pakistan, Germany, Middle East, etc...

I was thinking the same thing, unless you did the 4 player grouping. Then it might be more balanced.

It might be a good idea to have some AI players for cannon fodder. The US states map without the other countries might not be a bad idea. There's a number of very solid regions.

In the case of Adriatics I had not thought the budgetary differences to be that great, but so be it. (it would still work with a human ban on the Italian provinces but that would leave the AI off in it's own playpen)
Indo-Pak might be interesting, it is another that I have never gotten around to playing, it might be pretty slim on AI regions though.
Germany would be workable, nice rich, fairly even countries....as long as we give Germany to the AI. :P
I haven't played the Middle East since shortly after getting this game. Heck, I'm brainfarting and can't recall how many regions are included. Might be a good one to play though.
The US map would be fine with me as well. While I agree that some AI cannon fodder would be nice, the prob with the US map is that 5 people could play and not be within 2 regions of each other at start. Maybe too much cannon fodder.
We can discuss in the lobby, I'm pretty easy going as far as map selection.

How many ppl do you expect to have? I might be able to make suggestions on what map to play

8pm is a little tight for me but I think I will be able to join for a bit. I'll probably play 'as an AI' essentially till I disconnect, try not to influence the outcome since I won't be in long but I'd like to observe a little and could answer any questions on the MP issues.

Including you Chris we would have seven... if everyone makes it. I'd say five players is a decent guesstimate, although anyone else is welcome to join last minute. And if I know these sorts of things, it will be 8:30 before it gets rolling if not after.

For five-seven I'd suggest as follows;

- Mideast (Israel/Egypt/Turkey/Iran/S Arabia/Syria/Iraq)
- European Wars (UK/France/Germany/Ukraine/Italy/Benelux/Sweden or Romania)
- Germay (Benelux/East Germany/Poland/Czech/Hungary/Austria/Slovakia)
- Russia (less sur which regions here, but I think St. Pet/Moscow/Kirov/Volgograd/East Siberia/North Caucasus/West Siberia)
- China (ungrouped adds Korea and Japan so some possibilities there)
- United States (California, Jersey, Texas, New England, Florida, Canada, possible Michigan, New York or Kansas)

Why not the africa map ?

All the regions are in pretty bad shape (exepct possibly S.Africa).
The supply and unit selection and starting amounts are kinda low, so it would discourage the war somewhat (which is good if your looking for a score victory condition game)

And its got alot of regions, with a fairly large map.
