They will fire instantly the moment the transports unload troops, but will pretty much ignore the transports (attack wise) til they do.
this allows some exploits like
* you can block off paths the enemy ground units might use to reach a location, by simply landing transports in key hexes in the ground units path.
*once the transports land, they trigger the ai to commit troops, since the ai doesnt currently handle air units very well, and makes a ton,you will cause the ai to lose a bunch of aircraft simply because too much is in the air and they dont land in time.
* allows the player to send in space transports to dunkirk their troops out of a failed beachhead safely.
the enemy ai seems unwilling to fire on landed transports

Re: the enemy ai seems unwilling to fire on landed transports
The only question for this is then, if they target transports immediately, wouldn’t that make it incredibly difficult to establish a foothold on a planet? When we consider there’s a city within just about a 8-10 hex radius of another planet that makes it pretty tough to find an open area we can safely land.
I haven’t checked but it seems like deliberate functionality. How would you change it so it’s still possible to invade but not impossible to land?

Yup,too easy with issues one way, too hard with issues the other way...
Middle ground might be to make transports much tougher, so they are not the one hit kills they are now, but allow the enemy to fire at them at will.Making it so the can survive landing while under fire, but generally take enough damage when they do to need to repair seems like a decent middle ground.

Seems like we did already document this one. I gave it a bit of a bump. Added some of the thoughts we have to it.

K, a clarification, ground units wont fire on landed transports , enemy air units seek them out and kill them fast.
I knew this, but forgot because the battle i was paying attention to the enemy had already lost most of its air units.
Ill see if naval units fire on landed transports.
