I have the feeling that the mechanics of bringing ships to planet surfaces, to colonize, drop or load troops, is going to be a cornerstone of this game. Perhaps there are already plans in the pipeline to work on it but here are a couple of ideas for discussion:

1) When player is at Planet level. Having access to a list (perhaps under the deployed units tab) of drop capable ship that are in the same hex of the planet (in orbit) and allowing selecting them there to give the drop order and then select the hex would be useful. Not sure if this will work for the colonize order...

2) When player is in system view. Once a colonize or drop order is given to a ship and the planet is selected, the view needs to change to planet level to allow the selection of the hex where the order will be carried out. Of course, if the ship is "far away" from the planet when the order is given, there is a chance that the target hex becomes unavailable, so what to do in this case? Park the ship in orbit? Send an alert message?

Good comments. I'll add this to our design document for colonization/drop ships and see if we can blend it into our design.
