Yes, another newbie question - What do you do?
It seems like there is an awful lot to learn and a lot of forums and faqs to go through to find the answers. Question though is what do you do while your building up your economy and constructing things (buildings/units)? Do most of you fast forward time or just move stuff back and forth. It seem like there could be a lot of downtime in between action so I'm wondering what you experts do with all that time? Thanks

I can only speak for myself, but I usually use super fast forward for "build-up" times, and I hit pause every time I need to reply to an offer or adjust something. Usually every couple of days in game time. I suspect that is what Tkobo means as well.
For example, I might pause to order some tanks to be built, then fast forward for a day or two. I get an email from the world market, so I pause again and reply (or not). While paused, I decide to send off a diplomatic offer to a neighbor. Fast forward again. Reply to offer shows up two days later...pause and read it. Decide to check on why my cash flow is shrinking, check out the econ screen...fast forward again. Etc. etc.
As for how best to "spend" the peace time stretches...depends on each different region, but I usually do my dangedest to make my region self sufficient. Meaning drill oil wells, build farms or water treatment plants etc. New bases and/or roads/railroads to useful raw materials that happen to be in lower supply areas of my region. Generally improve my home region as much as possible.

Well, you have diplomatic trade offers, which i am often doing to 2 + regions a game day. With clock at full speed, i can usually get 2 done per day, doing nothing else.
So i pause there quite often.
Than theres unit organization and placement, which i squeeze in with pauses.(patrol routes, static defense stacks, missile build orders, sell and build orders,etc..)
Than theres "approach control", does a region close to me have a clear approach along roads or bridges that i can make more difficult on my end (scrap roads and/or bridges)?
This is time consuming and requires pauses.
Than theres resource planning. What do i need, will i need, and where will i get it.Which takes time and pauses.
etc....
And thats before any shooting starts normally Time only gets more in short supply once things heat up
Of course, hopefully by the time the shooting starts, ive finished some of the above (at elast for the time being) and have that time back in the pool.
