Contemplating about buying sr2010

Post by Mad Foxes »

Hi,

I'm new here. I have seen this game before on the mall but I didn't buy it, I was going to but I had doubts. Been looking for a game like this. But before I buy it I have some questions:

1. Does it come with a printed manual?
2. If I buy it through download can I burn it on a cd?
3. Does it use starfoce, if it does I won't buy it.
4. Are the campaigns, scenario or missions has ending date or are you allowed to play beyond that date?
5. What are the mods available?
6. Can you conquer the whole world or just regions?
7. Can you play any country?

I need help deciding also whether to purchase through download or physically. I want to download so that I don't have to wait but if you really need a manual to learn it then I prefer buying it physically. Don't really like pdf manuals..thank you...

Welcome to the forums.

1. Only if you buy retail (not digital download). Be sure to check the readme for manual changes. The digital download does have a PDF manual.
2. Yes, you can backup your download to CD
3. No.
4. You can chose to play beyond the end date.
5. So far there are only some graphical mods. The community has not created any others so far.
6. You can conquer the entier world, but you do so as a large region (max 30 AI players in any scenario). Read up on the World War III scenario for more info.
7. Yes, but as per above, not every country exists separately at the World level.

FYI, one of the digital download resellers offers that for a bit more money you can access digital download AND have a boxed copy shipped to you. It is however slightly more expensive but you end up with two full copies.

One aspect of #7 Chris neglected to mention.... while the world, and WWIII scenarios start out with larger regions, you can play a campaign to the world level as pretty much any country ( or region of a larger country) you like. To take over the world as the Marseille region of France, or Israel, or California, you would simply have to win sucessively larger "rounds" of the game starting from the general area you want.

I hope you give it a shot, it is addictive! :D

Be well,

Ok, I'm sold. One more question, is it possible to order just the manual since I purchased it through download.

I think most of us have come to view and use these forums as our "manual".

I still have mine, but I haven't looked in it since about my second week of playing. There was a bit of a sticky wicket concerning the printing date of the hardcopy manual, and some changes made to the game afterwards. Also, with the updates since release, other chunks of the book have become "non-spec" as relates to the actual game. My advice would be to dive into the deep end of the pool, and learn by playing. Two reasons. One 2010 is very suited to learning by degrees. Meaning one game, I learned about basic military unit control and production. In so doing, I ran into "problems A and B". I started another short game and set about messing with the aspects of the economy (for example) that had gone awry in game #1. Secondly, these forums have much more insightful advice and data than the manual does, both from the pens of the designers and from the players themselves. (points up) During that second game, I found more information than I needed about economic functions of the game in these forums, and in game #3, I had a whole different goal and persepective.

I am still learning, and each game so far has been at least a slightly different experience for me. I'm not sure wether the Goats would grant me permission to send you all or part of the manual, but if you were dead set on it I could check with them and see. I just don't think it would help you as much as you expect it might. :P

I have the manual on pdf it's included on the download. I just want a printed manual since it is easier to use . I do agree with you, you learn more by playing it. Some stuff might not even be in the manual. This is indeed a very immersive game and complex, I won't even call it a game anymore but a sim. I am really blown away.

How do you sell your excess raw materials to another country?
How do you load missiles to submarines ssn and ssbn?

Are there any spy agencies in these game and how do you use them?
How do you use recon and communication satellites?

One more question, I was playing a mission that involves china invading taiwan, a tawainese plane start bombing the sub and it's a fighter not asw plane, that's unrealistic. Could you tell me also the degree of realism on this game. Thanks a lot. Hope you don't mind answering all my questions.

1. You can do it through diplomacy, set an amount of raw material and ask for what you want (but dont expect much luck) or in the commerce and industry panel click on the raw material you want to sell and somewhere in their is a control for setting the amount of surplus to sell or tell your commerece minister to sell excess.

2. Select an ssn (double click) and click on the add missile button (one of the ones on the right) then select the missile you want to add. If there arn't any you may have to build some or research and build.

p.s. don't bother with ssbns, for anything other than saturation bombardments with cruise missles.

3. no they were cut.

4. You need a launch pad (if you are playing as china i think you have one somewhere) and once built double click on it and it is self explanitary. However note, that you can't directly control them, they just give bonuses.

5. I think that it is one of the more realistic games out their, but it does have flaws, the biggest being the AI, *prods balthagor to prod george to perform miricles*

And anserwing questions is what this forums is here for, so no worrys we were all new at somepoint...

Do you know what plane? Some fighter planes such as the S-3 have some ASW attack value for the torpedoes they carry. Also, the plane could have been spotting and the attack could have come from a ship beyond LOS. No one has reported a bug/error like this.

I know what Chritmas miracle you're wishing for! :P

P.S. been following some AI discussions on the Medieval II total war forums and checking it out since I have the game, seems we're not the only ones who adopted a "hard=hate all humans" and it is no less controversial over there :)

I might be wrong on the plane, but if I encounter it again I'll you know.

How do you make more than one waypoint? For example on patrol I can only make them from taking off base and then the destination just going back and forth.

If a/c is on air patrol would they engaged enemies? I don't see them launching their aa missile.

I was playing ww3 and china declared war against japan, I started giving away excess goods to japan to win some favors and japan still declared war against me, why is that? I did declared war on china though.

Thanks a lot...

1. You cant, something I find quite annoying, but I think it is being looked at for sr2020.

2. They do engage, but you only see missiles that you put on the plane (cruise for example) missiles that you would find normally, as in normal AA missiles you dont see, but look out for explosions on enemy squads, this shows that a plane has been damaged or killed.

3. firstly ww3 is designed for war, so you quickly end up at war with every one, but to tell you more readily why, I would need to know what difficulty and which region you were playing as. Something to help you, if you have a build cap which is alot bigger than theirs then that can have an influence, lots of little things like that.

I have the difficulty setting on very easy and I played USA. I did find out in other post regarding how ww3 is setup that way, for war.

On the EAW planes, do they do their job since EAW stands for electronic airborne warfare such as radar jamming, and some of these plane is the EA6B prowler.

If not it should function that way since in real life that's there primary purpose, should be incorporated in sr 2020.

I had a game before, that has that, I forgot the name and everytime I use the prowlers their entire radar system is jammed and I just bombed the heck out of them.

Electronic warfare never made it into the game. We are looking at ways to model it for SR2020, no word yet if we'll have a solution in time.

There are also some areas of warfare that we chose not to model as it gets beyond the scope we wish to tackle. But be sure and check out the SR2020 threads once you've played through SR2010 a while, I'm sure you'll have some opinions to add or ideas of your own.

One thing I want to request is keep it real as possible when it comes to military units and their intended functions and purpose specifically naval and air units.

Thanks also for listening to your customers, keep it up and in no time they'll even make you richer.
