So many questions!

Post by Nieldo »

Hi everyone, just this week found Supreme ruler 2010 after searching for a while for a decent military/world type sim/stratagy, I started by playing Civ IV which is all well and good for a quick world domination but I just wanted a bit more in the way of military stratagy, I got Superpower 2 and it just wasnt working for me and then I noticed a link on the superpower forum which led me to this fantastic game.

I'm currently playing the demo, I plan to buy the full game once I get used to everything. Ive got a few questions:

-Do entrenched units get a boost to defence from missiles and airstrikes?

-Do units cost less to maintain if they are in reserve?

-Exactly how do supply trucks work? Ive noticed them in resrve at a base I have but my newly built missile launch platforms were loaded automaticly once they were deployed.

-Is there anyway to make research faster? Ive started research on some recon satilites and M1A2 Abrams tanks but for them it says 15 years and 47 YEARS! Thats with spending on research maxed out.

-When I started my game I noticed I had alot of infantry units but they all of the garrison type, are these units intended as an early defence so you dont get rushed, that allows you to build "proper" light infantry or as I did APC infantry..

-On my current game Ive been building up some units and stacking them near another region I plan to invade, on the diplomacy screen they have a green bar, what does that mean? and how can I go to war with them without everyone hating me?

-Whats the usual defence units you would advise me to put in bases/citys?

-Is there a quick way to launch missiles? Ive currently got around 200 Tomahawk missiles and three mobile launch platform units, is there a button that allows you to fire one missile after another anywhere you click on the enemy region as long as its in range? I plan to missile the crap out of them before I send in my air and land units in.

So many questions I know. Im sure I will come up with some more for you all to answer :D.

And to the devs at Battlegoat, thanks for a great game and the support you put into it. You dont usualy see aload of dev team members regularly post on their game forum in these days.

 well that's alot. let's c if i can help some.

First yes entrenched units get a boost for defense. How well they defend depends on how well they are being resupplied and how expericened the fighters are as well as what type of fighter is attacking u.

Yes reserved units cost less to maintain.

Supply trucks bring along supplies for ur units. Bullets and fuel. Its automatic as long as ur supply trucks can get more supplies from the supply lines and are in the same hex or the hex beside the units u want to resupply.

U can research faster by building more research centers. Which add more slots were u can add more techs and also more centers add more money to ur max spending. U can also add more money to ur education and also research less techs at a time.

Garrison is for defense mostly. U can use them as airborne as well. U just have to have a helio or transport plane that can hold them.

There is no way to DoW on a region without everyone hating u unless whatever region u want to attack DoW on ur ally then u would have a just cause or u already have just cause for a war.

As for the best defensive unit. Good close combat with descent soft and hard attacks. I like to replace garrison with National Guard. Their about the same but the National Guard moves faster so I can move them to hot spots faster.

Right click on a target and pick launch missiles. U could always turn launch authority on for the tomahawks and the launchers will fire the missiles at any enemy units them see.

I think Berg covered most of it...

The green bar you mentioned should be one of several, and they change color as they grow or shrink. The one you would be interested in would be called Causus Belli (war justification), and the fuller it gets the more likely to attack you they are. The best way to get in a war with someone and not be universally hated is to trick them into declaring on you. There are several ways to do this, but the simplest (and the way least likely to piss everyone off) is what you were already doing. Stack units along their border...flying recon planes along it or stationing recon radar trucks adds some tension as well.

As for your assesment of garrison units, it depends on a few things but is basically right. Garrison units aren't worthless when entrenched, it takes some good pounding to dig them out. If you want something with more mobility and/or more punch then you can use advanced orders to scrap or sell any unit's equipment and the manpower returns to your reserves.

For a cheap and easy defense stack, take 1-2 Inf, add a few 155mm arty units and a few AA and/or AT units...even the cheap versions will help. (alot of my defense ends up being retreating units mixed with reinforcements approaching the combat area :P)
Have fun and good hunting!

The only book in sense I know of for combat is what I learned while playing th game. Its not written down. So what I'm saying is advice is ok but the best way is by learning it urself.

As for repair. there is 2 ways to repair. One is the AI will give orders to repair for u if ur initiative is set to 100% the other way is by picking the units u want to repair and right click on a base or anywhere and pick repair.

Actually anything in supply repairs, but the rate of repair is based on level of supply and in reserve is much accelerated.
