Hello, I am new here. Which you can likely tell :P

I have played SR for quite a while and found SR 2010 to be intriguing and quite fun. However I would like to see some new options. I have looked around the forums in this section and did not see anyone put them up. Here are some ideas I would like put into SR 2020. These are...

1. The ability to rename your nation.

I would assume I wouldn't need to put precedents but nations constantly change their name, usually after a military expansion. You're playing a ruler in a very fluid political world. I always wondered why if, say you were playing a yugoslavian nation, when you unite the other smaller nations, couldn't you be called Yugoslavia once more? Or perhaps reform Prussia by taking Estonia and Latvia as Lithuania. A more recent example would be with the Soviet Union. While each place was technically their own nation/place. Collectively they were known as the USSR.

2. Referring to if number 1 is possible, the ability to change your flag. I know this would only be for show, but being able to change your flag would be kind of nice in my opinion. If so, it could be to where you could upload your own flag or something. Perhaps select out of a list of other flags from the world? (from pre-columbian to modern)

3. This one deals a bit with combat. I have always disliked how when you sucessfully invaded another country, all other nations near the nation you took over would take a chunk of land. In my opinion that's far from realistic. I mean, if it's an ally that assisted into the war, land should be given fairly. For example, If Iran chose to invade Iraq and take a portion when the United States took over, don't you think that would constitute as war? However, during WWII, USSR and the Allies all partitioned land equally.

If the nation is too large and you conquered it yourself, Perhaps make a good portion of the outer parts of the nation go 'rogue' with partisan units that do not take land. So you have to deal with all the troubles of occupying the enemy territory. (Eventually, you figure you'd crush them.)

I'm sorry if there's any grammar errors and the like. A bit tired and just looking over stuff. Heh

An interesting suggestion. I am taking this to mean during gameplay and not as a map design suggestion. To make this happen in a way that would seem plausible we would have to consider which conditions this would be allowed. Will your people like the new name or just be stuck with it? How will your name change affect other countries?

You can do this on the current graphics pages but to do this during the game adds a whole new dimension to the game. You would have to have graphics sheets already in place to pick the possible new flag from.

No real grammar errors that I overly noticed... Point Number 3 is always a debatable element. while playing with an AI or human ally, "how should land be divided?" The "if" is easy. Sure if you helped you could divided the spoils of war but the "how" is tricky. Do you see any ideas of how potential divisions should occur?

3. I can answer now. I think it'd be easier to go by how much land was conquered in percentages. Say Region A, and B, attacked Region C. The battles are all over with. Region A conquered nearly 80% of the land, while region B conquered 20%. Land that remains could go 80% to Region A, and 20% to Region B.

Then theres the chance that Region B had lost land. Well, Region A, having conquered the enemy, should be awarded 100% of the land, and region B's original border gets restored.

However, if both nations were badly beaten, and someone did a rush on the capital during the capital victory mode. well then both nations would receive 50%

I know this system would have flaws, but it is better then giving nearly 50% of the land to some nation who didn't even participate in the war, or jumped in last minute. (Pulling a japan from WWI)

As for the other two, 1. I think would have allowed for better multiplayer play. You could make it effect your nation more, as well I suppose.

A democratic nation would likely disapprove of the change and loss to national heritage, however a Dictator would try to pull it off a path to a glorious future.
I don't know however, I'd have to think more on how mechanics would actually effect the people.

2. Well, it's not like theres any short supply of flags, after all, each petty kingdom, Province, and region had their own flags. I am sure a good number could be compiled, Including the flags found for the current world nations.

(.../...)

shouldn't it be more population based? For countries like Algeria with a big desert & a small overpopulated coast, it would really make a difference.....
