Forum Server changes...

Post by George Geczy »

We moved the forum to a new ISP today. Sorry to anyone that experienced downtime (was supposed to take one hour, took five...)

This should resolve all performance and error issues we were having with our previous ISP. Looks like no messages or users were lost, but our search data was (again) reset, making searches of past posts impossible. There may be a solution to this, but for now the search is broken.

And, unfortunately, everybody's cookies and remembered logins are lost, as well as the 'last read messages' bits. A cost of progress...

As to why we did this today when everyone had so much to say on the forum about Update 5, well, before today we were still working on Update 5 and didn't have time to do this :-)

How's that for a circular loop. Enjoy the new (hopefully) error-free forum,

-- George.

Well thats good to see...
I've send you a while back a mail with some very weird forum error msg's... but i guess it never reached you because of those problems...
At least the board is working fine now.. perhaps a little bit slow
and a few avatars are not displaying but thats not a big deal..

yep, you may have to redo your avatar... but things are running better now. We have already seen other improvements. For example, while sending out our newsletter it went much smoother than last time. (http://www.supremeruler.com/lists/?p=subscribe&id=1)

The remaining tasks of the forum move/upgrade should now be completed, so (alas) you may have lost your cookies one last time (such as last message read pointers). But hopefully everything will now be smooth and trouble-free :-)

I'd like to mention that the forums have been apparantly been reindexed, meaning the search function works again.

The log-in-twice problems should end up going away. Hopefully.

It works fine for me. Perhaps you should clear the relevant cookies and passwords to start over.
