economy changes.

As it stands now, i can put my entire population in the poor house for 3 years and eleven months.
Have a dar lower than 10.
And than in one month, remove most or even all costs to the population and get my dar to 33+ and win an election.

Even worse, i can do this same cycle unlimited times.

How about something like a permanent mark agaisnt a government that does this.A cumulitive mark at that, so each time i do this a percentage of the population will under NO circumstances EVER vote for that goevernment again ( at least in the time period os a scenario).

This sounds like a great idea to me. I'll make a note and we'll include it in our next design discussion.

But isn't that the way governments work in the real world... screw with you 90% of the time, and then suck up to you at election time with tax cuts etc...

Hhahahahaha, yes,pretty much
But the game allows you to go much farther than even real life governments would go.

For instance,in the state of washington the gdp/c is now at circa 6k (from like 32K)
Unemployment is over 25%
I have all the domestic price markups maxed, one is over 700%
I sometimes turn off entire industries for months on end with no back stock .Can you say "massive shortages" ?
Social services at 0(except infrastructure and education)

Yet, in one months time,i can reverse all of this, by making :
Domestic markup :negative 99%
GDP/c : rising like a helium balloon
Unemployment: falling like my eye sight as i get older :P
Taxes: .01%
All facilities running at max capacity
Social services at max

etc...

And end up winning the election with a 33%+ share. :-?
Defeating parties that til that last month have a 45% share. :o

Other than my snide comment about the way politicians do seem to manipulate the short attention span of their constituents ;) , I agree with the idea about "Unforgivable offenses" and will do my best to have it show up in the future.

The more i think about the "snap election" idea, the more i like it.

This or something like an "impeachment" feature that can remove the player from office when/if he goes too far would be a very cool addition.

A snap election in a democracy would be appropriate. In more oppresive forms of government, the population fleeing en masse might be the appropriate social response.

Generally, I would consider this to be triggered by wild changes in the sliders. The mere fact that you have very high or very low slider settings should not be the issue; rather, the change vs. time delta should be the trigger.

Feltan

perhaps the threat of a snap election, a military coup, a civil uprising, etc.... depending on government type could alert the player to how their actions are affecting the people. you may or may not get some warnings... then out comes "the hook" and you are dragged off the stage. maybe one of your citizens could even assassinate you.?..?

I like all that.

Warnings i think would be a good addition.

Assassiantion would be be cool, but you'd need a working intel feature for that to feel right to me.

I meant internal assassinations. So you couldn't actively pick off another player... but if a player ticked off their population enough... some radical citizen would find a way to make sure you didn't make it in to work the next day.

Thats okay, i kinda figured you meant both.

My point being that Intel is often used in many rl regions to stop attacks against the Gov by the regions own people, as well as from attacks from outside.

So if the leader could be removed (game over) by assassination,i think it would only be fair to have a mechanism that could be used to prevent it.
IE -intel feature

Personally i don't like the assassination idea....
I think it is a cheap game play concept: it could be very very frustrating...

Assassination would only be interesting if it had a very complex relationship to events and a certain cultural impetus. I'm thinking of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand here- or Ngo Din Diem. This would require a much more in-depth implementation of diplomacy - more visibility into the inner workings of each region. As a random event, without a precedent and a certain predictability it would be disruptive. I think the same could be said for popular revolutions and impeachments and probably abdications and coups. You can't always see these things coming, but when they happen in the real world, you say, "Well, of course, it was inevitable."
