Nato Style Mod- 1914 start

Post by Patatone »

It has been a long journey, as this is my first mod on meshes, but the mod is out! Here is the link.

Description:

I present to you the first version of the mod named "Nato Style Mod". The goal is to create symbols for models from the First and Second World Wars, up until 1950. In this first version, the models for the First World War, from 1900 to 1930, are released, with 42 models for land, air, and sea units. These are my free interpretations of symbols. The tools I used are Blender and Gimp, following the guide on the wiki.

In order to install, Just sbuscribe and You will find a new Sandbox named NSM Mod.

I stronghly suggest to press Ctrl + R and play in flat mode (Toggle 3D Perspective)

Regarding the sea units, in order to make the capital ships (BB and CV) more visible, I modified the height of the symbol so that it stands out above the others. This is also the case for infantry compared to, for example, artillery. A green arrow also indicates the direction of unit movement.

Among future developments, there is certainly the goal of finding a way to make the existing meshes in the game (which are very beautiful) coexist with the NATO-like symbols, thus giving greater strategic depth, as if by pressing a combination of keys one could switch between symbols and meshes.

I ask the community if there is a way to achieve this. Other goals are:

- how to better distinguish enemy units from allied ones
- create a tier system, from 1900 to ww1 and ww2.

The mod took me a lot of time, I would appreciate it if you could share feedback with me. Above all, it was very complicated for me to associate the symbols with the units, especially naval ones. I ask if you have any suggestions for modifications.

I thank Nerei and Balthagor for the suggestions.

In this scenario, it starts from 1914. If you want, I can also include 1917.

Thank you and have fun!

This like the alternative map colors is another great addition to Supreme Ruler. It would be nice to see as an ability to switch back and forth between the NATO style graphics and the original vehicle graphics.

Really cool (developers) to see this as a zooming feature that displays the NATO graphics while zoomed out to maybe like medium level so one can quickly assess unit types or formations displaying the NATO graphic representing what type of unit is in the majority. Example armor heavy battlegroups would display the armor graphic, infantry the infantry graphic. Then automatically switch to the vehicle graphic zoomed in further. Kind of like how SR is already with simple land, naval, or air formations are displayed while fully zoomed out.

Good work!
