has anyone managed to win a world invasion ?

I ask because ive been trying save after save, and though i can hold an island with only one land bridge (another small island,so units approaching need to be amphib) , i can no matter how many tanks heavy infantry and ground attack fighters i throw into the melee manage to create, hold, and expand a bridgehead on the mainland.

Light infrantry goes toe to toe with my tanks, and wins. Helis go toe to toe with everything i throw at them, and win, both slowly wiping out as many as 400 of my units in one never ending battle.I thru 16 transports worth of troops (7 units each trasnport ?) and everything i had on the island .

Im about to load another save, and build only light infantry and helicopters and see how it goes.But so far ,all my attempts have ended in brutal defeat with whats left of my forces crawling back to the island and hiding...

The battles are fun, but so far futile.

K, im currently convinced in order to succeed ,you need at least 3 invasion points in the same area ,that actively divides their forces and limits their supply in the area. And you have to figure at least one of the 3+ invasison forces will be wiped out, a bridge too far style.

10 to 20 transports worth of troops in each invasion landing

Hahahahhahahaha, okay. I went back to my mid sr days, sure they took away my missiles ,but fighter/bombers are decent at scorched earth too, if youve got enough of them.

Im almost positive a scorched earth policy of annilialting any enemy supply force , while i sit nice turtled on my island, and only invading the mainland after most if not all enemy supply sources are removed form the map in the area im about to invade will be a winning startegy

Yup, once the enemy map supply finally reacts to the absence of supply facilities , its soooooo much easier to advance

the classic 4x way in the mid-game was usually:
1. press the "drop all" button after winning orbital battle
2. colonize the new world, with your fast-breeding reptilians
3. profit or not since you mentioned taking developed planets is in GR better...

The ai should ask you to allow them to better get their navy involved...once helis get fixed, pretty much the only units able to stand off in the water and bombard will be navy.

So far,in all the saves i reloaded and played thru,i only saw 1 navy ship enter the battle
