How about as a background event international sports teams ?

You could tie there peformance to social spending ,infrastructure,etc..

You could have little news blurbs telling who's team won this week against who's team with a DAR and economic plus to the regions who team's won.Short term and small of course, but there.

Maybe even throw in a diplomatic-economic contest over holding the next olympics .
With some small reward going to the host.

A cute idea but one that would likely be hard to implement... Sounds like something that will end up on the cutting room floor, but I've made note of it just in case they is a way of working it in.

If you ever release the game coding or enough for people to make add on mods one could always spend their own time and make it. A sort of Counter-sTrike in RTS/Strategy terms.

Did you understand that I meant this as an abstract background event ?
Just some number crunching to determine a winner and a news report anouncing it to the players.
The actaul teams dont have to exist and the costs would simply be determined as part of the already existing social costs.Nothing to be added or monitered/adjusted by the player.Just some more fluff to the numbers already running in the background to add some bragging rights and atmosphere.

Just like a news report saying who won the World Cup or the Olympics, (or cricket, basketball, tennis - pick your own sport).

Should be easy to add and might have a slight bonus for the winners - raising morale. Just don't pick two sides currently at war!

I'm sure that it'll make it into our e-mail section if nothing else as Spam. We use those for fluff. After all, what's e-mail without your daily mortgage offer/trip offer/dating service unsolicited e-mails?

Spam email ingame ? Okay call me odd yet again but, COOL !

Well, since it probably wont get in the game, I'll waste everyones time by adding more - what about other cultural/society type things being represented in the game (at the same superficial level). For example, Nobel prizes, literary prizes (if you invest in education), anything that could make a country/region feel good about itself.
Your idea reminds me of those little headlines in the original Civilisation!

There is spending on "Culture" and this will translate into improved Domestic Approval and there will be random EMails to reflect the mood and conditions of your region. Whether or not the "Nobel Prize for Literature" is included is yet to be determined.
