Proudction Collpasing Towards endgame

Post by SGTscuba »

Has anybody noticed that towards the end of the game, even though my GDP is stable, and i'm not reducing my budget for social spending at all, that production seems to keep falling?

I have the weather system off so the variation shouldn't be happening to supply.

I keep having to build more and more facilities just to keep production level let alone trying to increase it.

That could be because there's technically a surplus on the world market which will reduce the production for every such facility in an effort to bring it closer to actual worldwide demand. So the more you build, the more of a surplus is in the world, and will reduce each of your production buildings even further so you really don't gain much of a net gain from building more. The advantage is that you're gaining a bigger market share, as every AI facility is producing less as well, so your percentage of world market supply is actually increasing. But it's still probably not worth it.

This mechanic definitely has its flaws, such as the one here, but it exists to make up for other shortcomings in the worldwide market. Perhaps it could be adjusted so that it only increases production to make up for shortfalls, but doesn't decrease production (beyond the baseline anyway) for too much production, so if the player wants to overproduce and drive the world market price down, or simply build up their own reserves, that they have the option to do so.

The economy is definetely doing weird things, and producing less and less is one of them. I noticed same thing with shortages.

Sometimes your demand drops too.

It can fluctuate quite a bit sometimes and I cant figure out the reason as I've turned off LOS penalties, weather is off, and my spending level is constant.

And at least its not just me seeing it.

What do you consider, "the end of the game"?

from 30 years in onwards. I've also noticed that the games maths seems to go a bit wobbly. I'll post some pictures up later of what I mean.

I have not made it that far yet in GW. I have only managed to get to around 1925 or so.

Heres some showing the wobbly maths:

You'll notice that even on days when both my internal and trade balances are negative, i'm apparently making positive money.

I can send the save if you want. However, sometimes its wobbly and sometimes its fine and I cant think why, on the same save. Maybe its the run time between saves over a couple of hours? If it crops up again, i'll save, exit game and reload the save and see if it fixes it just to try it.

Do you have any nation to nation trades going that would account for this? I find they often don't show in the trade balance numbers. Or perhaps colonies sending you money?

Nope, and I have no colonies.

Not even game speed sorts it when it does it, nor restarting the game.

That last day trade is for the previous day. Not current day. Also, back in 2008 when I first started with SR2020 I made a spreadsheet in MS excel with all units the USA has and all stats. It included the Annual Maintenance fee you see listed on the stat card. What I noticed when looking at the spreadsheet on another computer while playing SR on a different computer was the Annual Maintenance changes. On a day to day basis it would change. I surmised the formula updates daily based on perhaps your GDP/c and/or inflation/deflation, the cost of each resource needed to make up the "supply/ammo/fuel" the unit uses. When trying to logically add things up based on what is displayed, it was never correct. I came to accept it and just play the game.

By the way, prior to typing this I fired up SRGW as the USA, grabbed a unit, in this case an inf Engineer. I brought it out of reserve and opened the stat card. Un-paused the game and set maximum speed. The Maint Fee changed daily. You can check it yourself to verify. The behind the scenes formulas are smoke and mirrors to us. Better to just play the game, at least in my case.

My trade balance in this game is only in the 100's of thousands and not the millions my day to day difference is so that doesn't have an effect.

I still think its a maths error somewhere but only the Goats can tell us if it is.

As a percentage of total economy, this seems fairly small. If there is more data, we can consider looking deeper. For now, it's seen as a lower priority.

I seem to remember there is some rounding that occurs. Which can give "off" numbers if you try to calculate them.
