Sea/Float plane and flying boat behaviour

Post by SGTscuba »

I noted in the Unit Errors thread that seaplanes and other types of water landing (not water crashing!) capable aircraft may not be working properly.

As smaller nations I tend to use these units more often as I cant afford real carriers just for recon, and often don't have bases abroad. Even when I play as bigger nations (such as the USA), its nice to free up fleet carriers and escort carriers for assaults and use seaplanes for recon purposes.

I believe that seaplanes/floatplanes/flying boats should be able to land on the water (I believe that's supposed to be the way they work ingame). If not, then there are more that need to be seaplane tender carryable so they can resupply. Otherwise seaplanes and flying boats will remain pretty much useless.

It appears there will be Seaplane Tenders in the game....and they should act just like Supply Ships and Tankers (AO/AOR) in providing support at any location (port, atoll, at-sea....)......big users of the ship type include France, Japan and U.S.
at least I have been including them in a work-copy mdb for them to include if BG so desires.

Seaplanes should still be able to land anywhere on water, even get stuck having run out of fuel and still be fine too

Except, of course, that we are talking about a squadron of seaplanes, not a single aircraft. I can't think of any historical event where an entire seaplane squadron flew out, ran out of fuel, and sat in a big cluster somewhere waiting for a tender :D

yes, seaplanes should be able to land on water [as i am absolutely sure that this will make the coding section insane] as a squadron of elint seaplanes could recon 17km of water off of a coast and be fired on with land units without aa and load unit like ekranoplanes etc :D and run out of fuel

[just noticed that the save icon is reel-to-reel]
