There are some who would say that nations are pawns of global events...

Except it is not true. How can Switzerland stay neutral if this is the case? Each country decides if they are going to be peaceful, neutral or try to influence global events. No one made the Fascists invade other countries it was their own doing. If a country blames another for invading it is generally a flimsy excuse to attack...a rationalization at best. "Truth is the first casualty of war."

But anyway I just purchased SRCW from GG. Incredible sale going on there right now. I'm lucky I checked today because it looks like a daily deal.

Presenting something as a fact does not necessarily elevate it beyond an opinion. I would present as a counterargument the following book;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Next_100_Years

I don't agree with everything the author says and am skeptical about many things but it he claims it is true that nations options are extremely limited by the global situation. This means you each have different opinions and I've seen no inarguable proof for either sides.

Enjoy the game!

Good form, Balth! I bought this book early this month...about halfway through now (I read it in short stints). Like you, I don't agree with everything he says, but he does offer great insights into the way the geopolitical situation really operates beyond what media outlets and government speeches present.

Have you read America's Secret War, by any chance?

No, next on my list is Starship Troopers (seriously, the book, not the movie).

But we're drifting. And I'm not trying to pick fights, just keep both sides of the debate open.
