The consolidation of power was thought to bring about peace.. but global war is on the horizon.

0.2 Changelog
  • Fixed African Unions starting units and techs so it no longer starts with highly advanced future techs
  • Added Sandbox and Multiplayer modes
Release Notes
Recommended Volatility is Very High.
This mod supports all of the added options of the Modern world mod but does not include The files.
Including but not limited to Satellites and The custom AI Params.
If you have the Modern world mod installed it will use those custom files.. if you don't then it won't.

Note this is the initial release.. I need to add some more events and Tweak relations a bit more to get the the world where I want it.. which is why I recommend Very high volatility for now.
Events, alliances relations etc are all subject to change in future versions.
As usual feedback, suggestions are welcome.

Initial Link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16692168/State% ... Unions.exe
I'll add it to my site later, and change this link to direct you there when I do.

Install instructions : point the .EXE to your main SRCW folder. The one which contains your SRCW.exe. The install will do the rest.

Amazing mod, hope you dont completely abandon it after update 3 (tbh i think it might even be better than Modern World)

Doesn't need a whole lot to make it done. Its far less complex than the modern world, so the plan is to have it done by the time update 3 comes out and just update it to be compatible with update 3.

Theres only 39 countries.. so relations etc can be done much easier/faster.
Also It uses a large chunk of the source files from the modern world so alot of updates to the modern world will carry over once I go back to working on that.
(Same map file, units, techs, Economy etc)

Modern world is just far from complete.. due to struggling with constant issues I've done far less actual work into it than I want. This mod was designed to avoid those issues almost entirely. You might see some destack on cyprus.. but since its all one nation there is no slow down from it. Destack only causes major slowdown when there is 2 or more nations units on an island like that. Also I don't have to worry about NATO troops trying to reach afghanistan.. etc etc.

Also the problem with modern world is just when you thought you were done *bam* USA declares war on some other oil rich country

Nice to see you released a first version, although I would ask (and this is based purely off your screenshot as I have yet to play this) why is it that certain smaller nations still exist? For example the prevalance of small nations in central america, Icealand, Japan, South/North Korea, Bhutan and Nepal, what looks to be Georgia and Norway. I can agree with were the borders between most of the super nations are, and those that I can't agree with I can still comprehend so not really a big issue there! Also I can agree/comprehend why some nations are still seperate, such as Switzerland but it just seems that the amalgimations could be more complete, personally I would just have about 13 nations, incorporating the following changes:

North America combined with the island nations to the west
Greenland and Iceland combined to make one nation
Europe to include Norway, Turkey and Andorra (Turkey holds associate membership, a trade treaty and possibly soon full membership, as nice as Andora is the 6,767 people would most likely be absorbed by default)
The "nation" the the west of Russia that looks to comprised of Ukraine should be absorbed by either Russia, the EU or in part by both.
The Arab super state to include Afghanistan
India to merge with Bhutan and Nepal, possibly Pakistan as well (if this sounds to far fetched then Pakistan merged similar to one of the ways I suggested Ukraine should be)
Japan and South Korea to merge, possibly with adding Taiwan to that mix, or leaving it as it is
North Korea to be absorbed by China
Papa New Guinea to be added into the Western Pacific Island super-nation, and the super nation consolidated (looks to be an independent nation in Singapore?!)
Also various islands should be snapped up by the relevant super nations, although this does seem to already be the case

Like I said I have yet to play this mod so this information is all taken from the map and my first impressions, nothing else. I also do not expect these changes to all be included, however I am offering a few suggestions I have come up with so that they can be debated and considered, by both Fistalis and anyone else who has something to say about them!

What did you base your decision on for grouping nations into unions (not just this one, I would like to know for all). I mean how did you decide which nation should be in which union?

Most I based on current Membership in existing supranational bodies.
EU = EU member states.
South American Union = UNASUR member states.
North american union = NAFTA
Arab Union = Arab league
South Asian union = ASEAN
Eurasian Union = CSTO
African Union = AU minus the Arab league states

Then I looked around and decided I needed a few more, so looked to historical movements.
Which lead me to.
Greater India - Gave india some Countries that were once part of it.
Greater China- Gave China lands it has claimed for years.
Caribbean union is based on the west indies federation which actually existed once but not for long.

Pacific union is just based on the New Zealand Australian alliance, and I threw some small pacific islands in there to get rid of them.

The independent Nations are there for different reasons.. Ukraine for Instance has stated numerous times they have no interest in joining any supranational Organization such as the EU or CSTO, Afghanistan isn't likely to be accepted into the arab League.. and by extension the arab union, Greenland is part of the EU since its part of the kingdom of Denmark.

My intention wasn't to make every country belong to a Union.. but rather to show the world in the transitional process to becoming that.
The smaller nations also provide a bigger challenge for players looking for that.

India would be more likely to ally with CSTO. And Pakistan with North America.

Edit
Btw how did you made that pic? I mean to see the colors at this altitude?

I'll be updating this as soon as I can.. i have extra days off from work coming up next week so potentially then.

As to how i made that pic, you can change at what zoom level things appear and all kinds of other nifty things with the settings.ini file. I have an example one in the single file mods section, make sure you back up the original first though.. no recache required when modifing it since its just the options file.(can significantly reduce performance.. for example that zoom level of showing countries is great for a screen shot but i wouldnt even attempt to play like that lol)
