Quoting from a story from China Daily Peiser of the GWPF reports, “Chinese geologists have detected "super-thick" oil and gas-bearing stratums in the northern part of the South China Sea.“
The source of the report is Wang Min, China’s vice-minister of land and resources and was announced at a national conference in Beijing (January 15, 2011).

In its Annual Energy Outlook report for 2011, the U.S. Energy Information Agency concluded that the United States possesses 2,552 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of potential natural gas resources. Natural gas from shale resources, considered uneconomical just a few years ago, accounts for 827 Tcf of this resource estimate, more than double the estimate published last year. At the 2009 rate of U.S. consumption (about 22.8 Tcf per year), 2,552 Tcf of natural gas is enough to supply approximately 110 years of use.

.....theres been a few decent ones lately, but nothing out of the ordinary from the pattern shown already.Except this one....

New estimates say Israel is sitting on
Quote:
World Energy Council estimates Israel's shale deposits,............ could ultimately yield as many as 250 billion barrels of oil.

This oil is now very attainable due to a relatively new version of hydraulic *******.And one of the leaders (Harold Vinegar) of new tech in the oil field, including some of the patents on the new version of *******,is already getting the ball rolling.

AND

Quote:
And natural gas is much in the news in Israel, thanks to the discovery last year of a major offshore deposit estimated at around 16 trillion cubic feet.

due to ******* and new drilling techniques ,natural gas prices have fallen over 30% over the last year in the US.electricity production costs have fallen over 40%.

known natural gas reserves have soared in the US in the last few years, electricity production from gas has increased by circa 50% over the last decade and is accelerating rapidly right now,and the price continues to fall.

With nat gas leading the way,and coal sitting in the wings virtually untapped,a new study says the US could be energy independent in less than 10 years.

Whats holding it back,the government.

The study predicts the US could easily become an an oil exporter again,in that 10 years, simply by going after the known existent energy sources of gas, coal and oil.

It goes on to say, this would be sustainable for over 100 years, based on only currently known resources.

Not only would the US be an oil exporter, but a nat gas exporter as well.In fact ports recently built on the west coast, that were built for the purpose of importing nat gas,can now easily be used for export.

The analysis and study were done by citigroup.

As far as nat gas goes, the price continues to fall in the US due to the government having been unable to stop companies from going after known resources. The current price has fallen more than 80% vs 2008 prices.
Circa 45% of that price reduction, this year alone.Electricity rates have fallen an estimated 7%.

A new technology just successfully tested,in which natural gas is extracted from methane hydrate, promises a minimum estimated 280 yrs supply of gas from the north slope of alaska alone. The high end of the estimate is 10 times that. And keep in mind, the area is still very much unexplored as far as this goes.

Yup you read that right. A 280 to 2,800 year supply ,from one area of alaska alone.

Theres also some testing going on as we speak in the gulf coast, also about gas. What little i could find on it, suggests its the same technology being tested on the ocean sediment in the gulf. Apparently this technology can be used along most of the continental shelf.

And one of the most promising aspects of this,is the US government is one of those pushing it.This is a VERY rare occurrence in which the current administration is actively pursuing a carbon based fuel source.AND they wont be able to block it as easily should/when they change their tune back to that of the eco loon stance theyve held for the majority of the last 3 years,as at least 2 other nations are involved in the development of this technology.

The deal is almost done between western oil companies, exxon among them, and russia.Russia lacks ******* tech, but western companies have agreed to use theirs to help russia tap into an estimated 13bil+ barrel oil supply in siberia.Russia's $24 a barrel oil extraction tax is one of the major hangups still to be dealt with.Drilling is scheduled to start in 2013.

I work for an oil company when I'm not out galavanting arround the world for Queen and Country. The supply isn't quite that high, but it is signifacant.

I found this one very interesting.Seems due to ******* ,south africa is on the verge of unlocking about a 300 year supply of energy for their nation.Early estimates are over 485 trillion cubic feet of nat gas,can be accessed by *******,from one known field.

If this holds up, and it looks like it will, even the lowest estimates are that due to circa 300k jobs created, and the export of nat gas , South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) will get boosted by $9.5 billion.........And solve its long standing energy crisis in one fell swoop.

The ecoloons are of course doing their best to stop this.

Right now, south africa imports about 67% of its oil,and 65% of its natural gas.And is constantly operating in rationing mode, and still experiencing power outages due to lack of supply.

Being concerned about Hydraulic Fracturing does not make one a ecoloon;

sure, It's not like scientist know much about science. So, where exactly did you get your degree in mining and petroleum extraction?

You're views against all things environmental almost border on a crusade. You have such faith in your beliefs. It's almost religious...

Other then your loons comment, the rest was an interesting post. My views for/against these issues just aren't as extreme as your views.

So much sillyness and exaggeration....

Quote:
While the EPA recognizes the potential for contamination of water by hydraulic fracturing, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson testified in a Senate Hearing Committee stating that she is not aware of any proof where the ******* process itself has contaminated water. State regulators from across the country have similarly noted that they have seen no evidence of hydraulic fracturing contaminating water in their respective jurisdictions.

Now just how likely is it,that the most activist EPA in american history, that would shut down ******* in a heartbeat,if it thought it had a case,is acting in "cahoots" with the "carbon fuels" industry....

And how much more likely is it,that people with irrational fears based on emotional reactions, would act to impede something connected to those fears, due to those irrational fears.....

Now do you have something to add that isnt based on trying to "tweak" me ?You know, some argument based on merit ?
Surely after circa 15 years, all those so fearful of this procedure have something other than "it could be a risk" .....

A 2012 Cornell University report noted that it was difficult to assess health impact because of legislation, proprietary secrecy, and non-disclosure agreements that allow them to keep the proprietary chemicals used in the fluid secret. Cornell researcher Bamberger stated that if you don't know what chemicals are, you can't conduct pre-drilling tests and establish a baseline to prove that chemicals found postdrilling are from hydraulic fracturing.

What argument could I possibly present that you would listen to? You see conspiracies around every agency and most scientists. I have neither the time nor the inclination. I reply here so that anyone reading this knows that yours is not the only point of view, your stance on this issues is immaterial to me. I also finding calling large groups of ppl you've never met "loons" to be, well, rude.
