I'm running a fully-updated SRCW on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, with updated drivers.

The game was working fine for a few weeks. A few days ago it crashed while I was playing, and I had to reboot the computer. Ever since, the game won't start. An icon shows up on the taskbar but then quickly disappears. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and re-updating, but the same thing happens. Any ideas?

What format did you get it in? And from where? For example steam, direct download, hard copy?

It was purchased on Gamersgate. It was working fine for a few weeks fully updated. It was just the crash that changed something, somewhere . . .

Has any other software been crashing/failing to start, or just srcw?

Just SRCW. I get BSOD very rarely because my laptop can be screwy when it gets warm, but I'm not having problems with any other programs or games.

Have you tried uninstalling, restarting, then manually deleting any files left in you Program Files folder as well as any saves you have... then reinstalling...

Yep, four times now. One just to uninstall and reinstall, then each of the others making sure the folder was deleted and deleting saved games.

Have you tried a System Restore to before the crash?

Actually, no. Let me give that a shot.

I would be especially wary of a system restore!!!! They are notorious for causing far more problems than they fix, especially in areas that weren't previously broken!!!

I've NEVER had trouble with it.

I've never had trouble with it either . . . until now. The thing is going haywire. A lot of BSOD and restarts. However, I'm much more familiar with this kind of problem, and the feedback at least makes me feel like I'm doing something . . .

I'll check back in when it's back up.

EDIT: Got it all back up. Everything works now!
