A battalion is generally 35 to 70 squads of infantry, maybe a bit less in some special cases.
While in real life not all equipment types are organized directly into same-equipment battalions, (ie, it is more likely to find some infantry squads mixed with some anti-air and some anti-tank squads, etc), this is one of those details we have to assume exists to help make things work right.
As such, for our purposes we use Special Forces as an attack battalion, not as a 'covert ops' unit that would get deployed in sub-battalion sizes.

This really is a big disappointment for me. The SAS are hardly ever used as a Battalion, in fact I can't remember the last time they were. They have squadrons, which are cut down to 4 man specialist teams, and that's their strength. They do and have sent squadrons into wars, but you only have to look at Iraq and the Falklands, to name two, to see how they operated, some 8 man teams working behind enemy lines etc. This really isn't very realistic, using the SAS as a Battalion attack unit, it just doesn't happen!George Geczy wrote: As such, for our purposes we use Special Forces as an attack battalion, not as a 'covert ops' unit that would get deployed in sub-battalion sizes.

If you look at the falklands war and/or ww 2,you will see SAS groups of 20, 60 and even larger employed on a single mission.
Goose Green in falklands in an example of the most modern i can think of.
Ive read that 60 men of D squadron hit the argentine garrison there.
In world war 2, the 11 sas batalion was about 500 strong and it was intended to be used as a single force.Think they were renamed before they saw use,but the intent was still there. And after the name change they did follow that intent.
Also remember the games reality is different than the one we know now.
Many things of extreme importance have changed, nations high among them.
So whos to say in such a setting special forces would not lean more towards larger operations.
If the choice is remove the SF's from game as they do not fit the scale or make a leap of imagination and assume that thier role has moved far more towards large scale ops,i'll choose the later.

Agreed, but a Batallion consists of around 650 men!tkobo wrote:If you look at the falklands war and/or ww 2,you will see SAS groups of 20, 60 and even larger employed on a single mission.

ya, all the crew numbers are "per unit". There are 5 men per squad for special forces, 35 squads to the battalion by default, so you're looking at 175 men.FFDmh2223 wrote:okay, well how many are going to be in a battalion? the unit page states a crew of 5, are there multiple of these units that make up the battalion? I'm guessing that is how it works I was a little confused before.
Battalions can be built between 50% and 150% strength (anywhere from 18 to 52 squads). All attack values are multiplied by battalion strength.
