Before buying SRCW I thought I should try first SR 2020 and see if I liked it. I decided to try first with Spain, a country of which I know a thing or two. Upon looking at the research button(s) and others I immediately stumbled into serious inaccuracies:
1- Spain has been a leading country (worldwide) In high speed trains and alternative energy production (or whatever is called in the game). It exports these technologies to many countries in the world, including the most advanced technologically (both of them to the USA, for example). Having to research these technologies in 2020 shows an inaccuracy of MORE THAN 30 YEARS in both cases.

2- Something similar happens when I want to build tanks. It shows that I haven´t researched a prototype. Spain has been producing the Spanish version of the German Leopard MBT for many years now. In at least 2 armor plants in Spain. If anything, the Spanish version is slightly enhanced as it has reinforced the armor in the turret and front slope.
These are just a few examples but my overall feeling is that, at least in the case of Spain, the homework was not done properly.

Minor stuff to give you more to research. It's the same for other countries also. To give you a few examples, the USA does not start with;

Coal Gasification (http://fossil.energy.gov/programs/power ... index.html)

Common Missiles (self evident)

Depleted Uranium Munitions. (A political hot point, but I have used these)

Combat UAV (http://www.af.mil/information/factsheet ... sp?id=6405)

These are just some examples. It is not an issue for me, gives me something to due in the begining of the game. I am sure most modern countries in game all have some like this.

Thanks a lot for your prompt answer and help.
I suspected something like that but, anyway, I thought it was weird that those "banner" techs of Spain were missing.
As far as I´m concerned, if all countries are balanced in the same way in the game I have no problem accepting it. This was precisely my what I tried to ask in my OP. Sorry for not being clear.

There are some mods that change tech around a bit. If you know how you can change/mod the techs for Spain I would think. I know nothing about it myself.

My experience in modding is nil. I´ve dared to change things only when there are folders prepared for that purpose, where I can change numbers and such. Be it my ignorance (though I used to blame my luck...or lack of it) or whatever but, in the past, when I messed around deeper than that, I ruined everything.
I´ll just accept the values of everything in the game and hope it is ballanced correctly...or find a country that offers the right ballance of challenge and possibilities of success.
I hope to post today (soon, anyway) something about GDP/c in SR2020. I would love to hear the opinion of an experienced player like yourself on that issue.
Cheers.

Ha, I really do not pay much attention to GDP/c. As long as I have positive income that's all I care about. There are some "numbers" people here that can provide insight though, so go ahead and post any questions you have.
