It was supposed to have paid $800 million,but chavez is trying to worm his way out of paying the debt>defaulting would be nothing new for chavez OR venezuela ,and chavez is using that to try and get columbia to ignore a large portion of the debt.

The murder rate in venezuela has climbed continually since chavez took office.Caracas is among the highest of cities when it comes to murder rates in the world.Some say its now number one in its hemisphere.The government itself has admitted that the police themselves are behind circa 20% of the crime in venezuela.
It gets even worse when the base is changed from murder,to violent crimes.Kidnapping alone soared an estimated 60% from 2009 to 2010.

Its so bad, the government has stopped giving out official stats, as they were just too dismal.

Inflation ?Now rising at an estimated 24 to 30 percent a year.Said to be one of the worlds highest.
Power shortages ?Increasing steadily,despite forced government rationing.
Food shortages ? Also increasing,along with the amount of government control over the food.
Economy ?Shrinking away...
Oil production?Down an estimated 40%.

Its not hard to see why he's handing out guns to his supporters.

Yup,and he survived cuban health care to boot.Well, so far at least.

Nasty stuff,NOT something you wish on even the chavezs,ahmadinejads,assads,etc... of the world.

I agree with his opposition,who hopes he gets better and then is defeated in elections.Sure it will most likely turn very violent should he lose,but thats on the people who go violent as much as him.

It is Latin America. It is likely to get violent if he wins. In fact, it is overdue to get violent just for the sheer hell of it. :wink:
