Mid 1996.

I am surprised by how extremely cheap agriculture and timber facilities are to make. Sure I have made them before, lots of times. And I've been playing since 2010 came out. But I just never looked at the prices for raw materials, I just assumed they were all roughly the same except for the build times (and oil derricks, fake rubber production obviously more expensive).

With the world still being dirt poor after 60 years I decide to at least start exporting agriculture instead of importing, there's a fair markup for it. So I go from 200 farms to 450, expand timber to break even, scrap all power except for coal and nuclear to help pay for the building of it, and all goods that are mid or micro (eventually I'd like to replace even those with the advanced version - at home with 100% loyalty). Except for a slight deficiency in oil i'm breaking even or exporting in everything now. Which doesn't help me make money, but at least i'm not spending money on imports anymore. Oil (200% domestic price or I would need to produce a massive amount more), Power (200% domestic price), Uranium (never ever sell that sweet stuff), Consumer/Industrial/Military Goods are still locked down. Consumer for the domestic price, Industrial and Military because I trade those a lot and the minister wouldn't understand. I take military goods, trade them back (so US has them again to take) for industrial goods at a profit and then sell those on the open market.

I have a whopping 10 nuclear power plants now and the world is still nearly broke with the top 20 nations having banks of $20m to $1m depending on the day, they fluctuate a lot. US breaches the -1$trillion mark and USSR is up down up down mostly down. So I'm not too worried about them atm, they just gobbled up China and have a 1.5 billion population to somehow deal with. My population is 450 million with 7.5% unemployment, so I don't feel bad making hundreds of farms to drop that number. Seeing how cheap Ag/Timber are I force my colonies to make some also to combat their unemployment.

I give all my navy away to the colonies, the 4k range Yugumo to the UK nearby and the nuclear ships to Japan. 2 runs of 20 Raven recon also go to them both and I do another run of tanks/infantry for me but i'm still verrrrrry weak. Another 10 LA class subs built for Japan and 25 more Yugumo built for UK, plus I give them all as many exocets missiles as I have to load them with. Japan I give all my SLCM which is a very strange thing to see - Japan with nuclear subs armed with nuclear cruise missiles.

After the unit building (what there was) and facility building is done I switch over to pure research. Military Production 7 is expensive but offers a lot of future branches, and I add 4 more expensive techs that will advance my naval or general combat possibilities. Research Cost = $180 million/day. The US and USSR have 5 nice green dots of happiness towards me. Diplomatically. The population opinions of me are still around 30%...

One thing that is irritating me is that as soon as I give 10-40 ships away to my colonies, they sail straight into the US great lakes region and sit there. While great if the US and I go to war, this does NOT serve the colony purposes as regional naval lords. I am considering breaking the mutual defense with US (get colony ships out of their waters), South Africa (get SA units out of my area in Africa) and posssssssibly the USSR (get their units out of UK, Jordan, Egypt, other areas).

Welcome to 1996. Be sure to have a coal chute in your house.

Mid 2002.

Many new big military techs, zero new unit designs. Still using WWII techs mostly that I purchased from the major powers. I broke all treaties with South Africa which got rid of their units scattered around Africa, US leans towards hating me unless I do Government Support once in a while, and USSR would love to ally with me - if they thought I could be trusted to keep a treaty. :-)

Sure I could just build units and take over most of the world but the superpowers have 6,000 land and 2,000 air units each - and half are the same designs I am using.

August 2002.

Just a sitrep. I am trying to build 20 agriculture/1 Nuclear power plant at all times. Still focusing on just research but trying to help my colonies out with military/oil also. Here's their current naval power areas.

UK and Japan are doing well and self-sufficient, I just need to give them more ships. Japan, apparently a LOT more ships - nuclear - so they can reach Japan to start their patrols. Madagascar is doing okay but down -14k bank, probably from me demanding they build basic facilities to make them self-sufficient such as rubber, timber.

All of south Africa is ripe for the taking with full casus belli thanks to supporting government opposition. I just haven't taken the time to take them over, and not sure I have enough land forces to take over South Africa without serious contest.

Image

The Soviets are willing to ally with me if I was more trustworthy, and the only way to do that is to make treaties with people. And most of the world hates me even after 2? 3? 5? years with production off. So I have picked a region of small countries (read that as cheap!) to support their governments. Then i'll make treaties with them in a few years to raise my treaty level. Do I really want to ally with the USSR? Well... not really, but they are the largest nation/largest army, love me, and I really like to have at least one ally until it's 'bring it on' time.

Image

Still concerned that quite a few ships I give my colonies immediately head to the US Great Lakes area, it takes them many years to leave again.

Other than that, nothing new. Costs at minimum, no production, slight ag and 1 nuke plant production, research research research.

In addition to the USA military goods route I have just built a USSR military goods route which should increase my income a bit and keep them both down financially/technologically. If I take a break from researching for a year I could build transports to hit both regions at once and then switch back to very serious researching. But world prices would crash, so limited improvement. I am alternating between the two countries, not 'borrowing' from both.

I took a few days off from work, and I didn't want to play SRU too much at home - then i'd be burned out or bored with it at work. 7 seconds per tick at work on tablet, about 2 ticks per second at home on the tower.

2006

I am still doing research research research. 1-2 nuclear power plants and some agri/timber facilities building at all times, making real progress on converting away from coal. I have 125 coal plants left with some surplus energy, 600 agriculture and can provide 2/3 of what the population wants, 250 timber and producing half what is needed, 220 oil fields and producing roughly 3/4 of what is needed with it locked and 200% domestic price. After I conquered the last country I had a population of 450 million and I now have almost 600 million from births and immigration which is starting to cause problems. I made a run of 15 F-29 Fulcrum for UK and a run for Japan, 2 runs of 25 Yugumo frigates for UK and a run of 25 LA submarines for Japan. 3 runs of 20 recon passed around between UK, Japan, Madagascar. So while we're still all very poor in unit numbers we have very strong units. I still suspect the Yugumo escort and F-29 Fulcrum were not meant available to me.

Still no countries with missile technology except me, no nuclear weapons tests done except me, and as far as I know only the US has jets and nuclear power technology although they are still using just coal (no money to build anyhow). The US is in a deficit of trillions it won't recover from and the USSR is still up down up down, they have researched another 2 medical techs. They have had Tank Tech '51 for at least 10 years but still just focusing on non-military techs. Not even a single new tank design.

Otherwise the world economy is tanking. France and Italy are doing okay (more than +1m treasury) but other than that there isn't enough cash floating around for there to be much of an economy. Coal and agriculture is still the coin of the land, almost everybody has to/had to research the basic energy technologies and I used default settings - that means no loans - so no injections of cash. That is one thing I would have changed if I could go back, it would have made a huge difference.

I still have transit agreements with US, USSR, France so that lets 'our' units get almost anywhere. And Africa is a transit area of course. So jets can go from me to Iceland, Britain, France, Africa, Madagascar. Or Iceland, Britain, France, USSR, Japan. I own the Suez Canal and US owns the Panama Canal.

I think I am getting close to a new fighter, a nuclear sub that is inferior to the LA class I purchased (but this is a worldwide unit) and maybe in a year i'll have the Storm Hunter tank/infantry units. They have great stats except for that blasted 2 combat time which makes me want to steer clear of them.

So no real progress - yet. Details and screenshots when I get new units, otherwise just more research.

September, 2010.

Almost finished replacing all coal with nuclear power, and still just doing research. Very slow going but I did unlock a very sweet new multi-role plane, and have access to a new sub that is slightly inferior to the LA class I have been using. I'll start building the F/A-2 Ghost when I can but I won't bother with the SSN-8 Walrus.

I have Thermobaric weapons but could not remember if I would get more than one missile from it, it's ballistic which is nice but for use against units so I won't be using it TH-1 Thermobaric. I can see a tank in my future, the INTP-2017 Grognard, and I now have access to a new and better infantry unit. MIP-II Boxcar.

I still have no AA that can reach mid-level planes/missiles.

I might have to just go with those for me and my colonies which is doable, I have some boosts for artillery range, soft/hard defense, attack values. My costs are pretty high running just law enforcement 110% and infrastructure 60%, even if I turned off all research/building I would be -$100 million/day but if I lower law enforcement the guerrillas start popping up. Once you fall down that hole you can't always climb back out of it, and that means no more research or building ever again. I must buy oil (minister locked out, 200% domestic price), agriculture and timber as I my unemployment is finally under 3% but now the GDP is around 1,000. I am meeting power and all goods needs and I could just shut down consumer good production if things get critical, I might do that when unit production time rolls around.

My tablet is still running around 6 seconds/tick which makes work very tedious if i'm just doing research, but I might run it some this weekend on my tower at home to get those units designs and convert from researching to unit production.

I still have the save and plan on coming back to it, but have to take a break from it for a bit.
