is there a way to change hex size/distance from 16km to another value - like 4KM or 1KM ?

No, not a value that can currently be changed.

Ah, so the map editor changes that were talked about in the stream have already been added? I didn't expect them to be released for another week or so. I suppose that the change to hex size doesn't actually increase the number of hexes on the map right? So basically if you reduce it, you're effectively just making the world smaller?

You can always change vanilla map for a "bigger" one just as he did with Mars...

With the ability to change hex size it will change combat for units with a firing distance of less than 16km. I guess, if you have 2 units, one with a 12km distance and one with a 3km distance it will matter more as the 12km unit will now be 3 hexes away. I am specially thinking of early to mid planes, arty as well as early land units.

it gets even better:
- you can change hexsizes of already existing maps (pretty useful for updating my Marsx1 mod - to remove the extended ranges)
- you can even resize existing maps that means changing the number of hexes
- map can also be changed to a flat board
- could create a new map up to 2000x1900 (one time it worked 2000x2000 but soon the editor was not responding)
