Returning Player

#1 Post by swang30 » Sep 09 2017

Ok, I've been away since SR2010 and SR 2020. Should I buy SRU+DLC, or SR:GW?
Also, a couple of other questions based off of the let's plays I've seen

1) A bunch of let's plays I saw had countries fall once you conquer their capitals. This seems... unrealistic. IIRC in the old SRs, it took much more effort than that. Were they just playing on easy mode?

2) I actually liked screwing around with the economy way back when, but it seems like detailed facilities display is gone? How do I go around figuring out which is the worst performing coal plant (for example) and getting rid of that?

3) I've seen concerns of the AI not building, and that SRGW fixed this. Is it fixed for SRU+ DLC as well?

Get SRU and GW DLC. GW is only 1914 or 1917 start. SRU, with GW DLC is 1914 - 1936 - 1940- 1941-1942- 1949- 2017- 2020 starts.

1. There is an option at game start to set for Fixed Capitals. But the ai may fold anytime its DAR/Mar is very low and capital is taken, regardless of setting.

2. Not sure what you mean. You can still see each facility and its supply level.

3. I have no comment about this.

2) You used to be able to see that facility X was producing at 50000, Y at 47520, so when you close down facilities, you would close down Y

Is that in 2010? I am having an issue remembering that in 2020. Or I am not precisely understanding what you mean.

That was in 2010, you could also have factories that weren't fully producing outputting a % of maximum output too until you let them "upgrade" fully. It had a list for each product type you could go through, something that is missing in any of the sequels.

All right, I never had 2010. Sure seems like a very useful bit of info. But I guess in 2020 and beyond, it is all based on supply level for the hex and all facilities in the hex are equal.

from my understanding the engine was completely rebuilt from 2010 to 2020.. hence why there were some things that were left out or never made it back into the sequels. Everything was measured against the time to reproduce it in the new engine and anything they designated as not worth the time got left on the cutting board. This is also why mods, files etc from 2010 got left behind since.. and just about everything from 2020 can be updated in some way to work with the sequels. 2020 and on has all been the same engine.

That's fine for factories, but is there a way to look at resources without having to figure out how bright is the red shading? and what shade of red constitutes "worthwhile"?

swang30 - Every resource hex gives the exact same amount of a resource per "collector". The only difference is the number of resource collectors you have place on them. To illustrate; If you have 1 coal mine on a light shaded hex or 1 coal mine on a dark shaded hex they will supply the same amount of coal. The difference being, you can build 5 more mines in the dark hex and only 1 more in the light hex.

Clicking on a hex will show you the amount of supply it has, the higher the supply the more efficient the facility. Keep in mind a hub facility also generates some supply itself.

In SR2010, facilities were built to a certain size shown as a percentage like 23% or 48%. Facilities as of SR2020 and up are all "100%" The only thing that makes a facility produce less than another is it's level of supply and hex loyalty. IIRC the resources in the hex won't limit the output of a facility, they will limit how many facilities can be placed there.
