Game version 9.1.37 crashes at start (with no speakers connected ?!)
Hello,
the Game Version 9.1.37 (unmodded original steam install) crashes at start - i guess its due to not connected speakers (in WIN7/64 Speaker symbol has a red cross)
SRU crashes after the splash screens before showing main menu.
SRGW crashes after clicking singleplayer in main menu.
On my other PC that has speaker connected the same versions work.
Maybe that is the new audio system you use since the recent updates...

The audio software hasn't changed in a few versions now. This latest updates for both SRU and SRGW (1.37) contained no code changes at all. We've had no reports of anything like this which would mean this is likely a configuration issue on your system. Have you checked if your audio drivers are up to date? Unplugging the speakers should have no impact on software.

Slightly related sound issue. I have noticed recently, if I tab out of SRU or GW and stay out for more than a few minutes all sound dies in game. In most instances I can open options, enable music, (I have it disabled), then disable it and sound starts again. One or two times I had to restart the game to get sound to work.
This started within the last couple of weeks to the best of my knowledge. I had always alt tabbed out previously (SRU) with no issues.

..whatever this (small) issue is easy to reproduce:
pull out all of your speaker plugs and start game - it will crash -
insert speaker plugs in - then game starts without problems - just did it a few times.
maybe the win7 sounddriver unloads while no speaker is connected...
(could also be the problem others had with crashes on startup - now you can ask - do you have your speaker connected ?

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm it as my "Beats Audio" speakers are built into my monitor, nothing to unplug.

Yeah, I have speakers built into mine as well so I can't test it either.

Game version SRGW 10.1.3.8 - crashed right at start (no speakers connected) - but in options.ini i have seen that i had sound enabled.
Muting those entries:
bsoundmute: 1,
bmusicmute: 1,
enabled me to run a game without connected speakers.
Maybe add a check that if no connected speakers are detected, it disables all sound output, looks better than a CTD!

I've not been able to reproduce the CTD. I just tried again, worked fine for me.

Thanks for testing.
i found a way to fix my issue by muting it - and in the case someone else has weird CTD at start issues,
you can point them to try muting sounds in the options.ini file

Re: Game version 9.1.37 crashes at start (with no speakers connected ?!)
I've tried to follow your steps to recreate it, it just doesn't crash on my system with speakers unplugged. Neither my machine at work or at home.evildari wrote:look here (my old post): http://www.bgforums.com/forums/viewtopi ... 84&t=25990
it is easy to reproduce - but i guess way more hard to find the cause.
Unless you find the cause, can you maybe include a check if speakers are connected and if not mute all sound output or at least mute those 2 soundoptions right at start, iin future updates?

The issue has been reproduced in studio and will be fixed for a future update.
