SRGW - Serbia - Changes for Order-of-Battle: Artillery

Post by geminif4ucorsair »

In playing Serbia this week, noticed a serious deficiency in historical number of guns for the Serbian army.
I would recommend that the below number of battalions be used for the Army, which corresponds with various reference books of the period. Primary artillery comprised 188 light guns (Schneider 75mm M1897, 80mm De Bange M1877)), 36 cavalry mountain guns (70mm Schneider M1907), and 2.5 heavy artillery (120, 122-mm) howitzers (of both German and French origin).

This far outnumbers the artillery available in SRGW, and while I recognize one need not duplicate historical numbers, for small countries (like Serbia, Greece, Portugal, Siam, etc.), with minimal ability to compete initially in production with larger European powers (Austria-Hungary, Germany, France, etc.), it is of benefit for SRGW to replicate as close as possible existing inventories - which are never large, any way.

My suggestion revolves around using the 5 x District Headquarter locations (see Serbian map changes on other thread) as the center for most artillery, all of which will have Barracks if city changes are implemented).

Suggested Changes:

* * NIS X 952 Y 189 - Ist Military District Hq.
* Artillery: 2 x Bn. Schneider 75-mm M1897 mle

* * VALYEVO X 940 Y 185 - 2nd Military District Hq.
* Artillery: 2 x Bn. De Bange 80-mm M1877

* * BELGRADE X Y - Barracks will be added when City changes are made
* Artillery: 1 x Bn. Krupp 120-mm M1905 how
2 x Bn. Schneider 75-mm M1897 mle

* * ALEXINATZ X 950 Y 189 - Center for Cavalry & mountain artillery regiments
* Artillery: 2 x Bn Schneider 70-mm M1907 mountain guns

* * KRAGUYEVATZ X 945 Y 185 - 4th Military District Hq.
* Artillery: 1.5 x Bn. Schneider M1897 120mm field gun
2 x De Bange 80-mm M1877 field gun

* * ZAYCHAR X 935 Y 186 - 5th Military District Hq.
Artillery: 1 x Bn. Schneider 75-mm M1897 field gun mle

* * SHABATZ X 937 Y 182 - [on map as Sabac.]
Artillery: 1 x De Bange 80-mm M1877 field gun

* This will provide a more balanced game against Austria-Hungary - and more interesting!

Reference further specific to Serbia (but also related to the A-H Empire discussion):

* Population, 1914: 5.0 million

* Peacetime Active Strength: 30,000 [that's the same as New Zealand, including Territorials]

* Post-1914 mobilization: 460,000

* Total mobilized during War: 707,000

* 1918 Military Strength: 110,500

This doesn't really change their overall quantity so not sure it would have much impact. Noted though.
