The East African Federation, Free at last

Post by Cdiplayer »

The year is 2024 and Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda have finally united into one nation. The first unified free elections have just been held, with the independence party gaining 34 percent of the vote, enough to secure leadership of the government. The past 4 years have been spent on a rapid modernization and industrialization program, with the ultimate goal of becoming a global economic superpower while at the same time defending democratic values both at home and abroad. At present the nation is ironing out a few problems with its new, largely coal power grid and is working towards becoming self sufficient in military goods and consumer goods production. Offshore petroleum reserves in Tanzania are also beginning to be exploited. Military modernization is progressing at a somewhat slower rate, with the military purchasing all of its equipment from overseas. Through research and testing it is hoped that the Federal military will eventually be able to produce domestic fighters and land units. For the moment, a large reserve force is being built up, with the current number standing at 330,000. As the East African Federation is a peaceful nation, it is not expected that military conflicts will arise in the near future but it is nevertheless important to be prepared. The year is now 2048 and much has happened in the last 24 years. In 2032 the East African Federation, after over a decade of incredible economic growth, went into an economic tailspin and depression. GDP per capita topped out at $4,600 before plummeting and large scale emigration began. The President's approval rating fell to under 25% for the first time and some began to wonder if the Union would endure. Thankfully, the depression was halted by a massive urban renewal program instituted by the President using the large budget surplus that had been built up over the past several years. Work began on the nation's first nuclear power plant, the pride of the people of the East African Federation and a symbol of their triumph. In the international arena North Korea attacked and conquered South Korea. After this they declared war on Japan and Taiwan and within five years South Korea had rebelled and retaken all of their land in addition to crushing North Korea with the help of the Japanese and Taiwanese.

After this, China invaded Tajikistan. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan responded by declaring war on China. Soon China was facing enemies on all fronts, as India declared war and the United States launched an invasion from the now united Korea. In the chaos Tibet and Inner Mongolia have become independent, with Inner Mongolia unifying with Mongolia after a brief war. Returning to the domestic arena, the ruling party continues to win elections and, since recovering from the depression growth has skyrocketed. In 2042 GDP per capita reached $40,000 as commodity surpluses produced massive trade income for the East African Federation and taxes dropped to 11%. A military buildup began in earnest, with the East African Federation purchasing a Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier from Great Britain, 2 squadrons of F 35 fighters from the United States, a squadron of Saab 39 Gripen fighters from Sweden, an Akula 2 class submarine from Russia, an Astute class submarine from Great Britain, and several Leopard 6 tanks from Germany. I would also like to announce the beginning of production of the East African Federation's first domestically built fighter, the Avro Arrow! Image This fighter symbolizes the strength and spirit of the people of the EAF and their commitment to defend their sacred democracy at all costs.

Unfortunately, as the military grew, it rapidly became apparent that the EAF's petroleum reserves were insufficient to sustain a military machine. It was then decided, with great difficulty, to admit South Sudan into the Union in spite of its incredibly low level of economic and social development so that South Sudan's large oil reserves could be developed. A declaration of war was issued merely as a formality and Federation troops marched into the capital of Juba without firing a shot. South Sudan accepted annexation peacefully and a large scale economic development program began. In spite of this, GDP per capita still declined to $36,000 and the nationwide power grid was disrupted from being forced to extend its reach into South Sudan. The United Nations applauded the annexation for its humanitarian implications, millions of South Sudanese will now live in a developed first world country! The EAF is beloved the world over and so our international relations did not suffer as a result of the annexation.

Really interesting! Did you go into your settings and renamed a country East African Federation?
