A man of our times, saying things that i think you will appreciate very much.

Enjoy.

He was okay for a believer/religious guy :P

Got it in my emails and immediately thought youd like it also.

Thanks tkobo. I had seen that a while ago, but I appreciate you pointing it out again.

Red, don't you see it as a rather sad comment that a hearfelt outpouring of patriotism gets labled by you as "hokey."

Feltan, I thought it was hokey mainly because he said some things which seemed really whitewashed, just nevermind day to day life, we're super awesome and life's fantastic. Take pride in something, fine, but doing it by pretending things are better than they are just feels wrong to me. :-?

It is nice to watch unvarnished patriotism. No qualifiers, no hedging. In today's PC-cynical environment, it is a developing cliche to bash your own country to establish credibility.

While it might strike you as odd, the real cutting edge position is to pledge aliegance without qualification. I mean, in today's environment that is pretty radical -- kind of the opposite of hokey.

I am not all that fasionable. :D Maybe it's a generational thing--I spent my childhood watching cynical shows like the Simpsons.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Corporate States Of America. And to the Republicans, for which it stands, one Nation, in debt, completely divisible, with liberty, and justice for oil.

Perhaps it is generational, but I'm betting we are part of the same generation -- or at least close to it.

The problem with being cynical is that you can never be cynical enough -- just as soon as you settle in, somebody comes along who is more cynical and ups the ante.

I have seen this little sarcastic snippet before, but I am curious as to who originally wrote it. Google searches and the like only bring up posts and such where it has been used as a signature.

As for cynicism, it is a two edged sword as easily applied to vague speeches about "hope and change" and other such examples of left wing propaganda drivel. In fact, I find it much easier to be cynical about promises of Utopia, than I do about the concept of having to bust my ass and earn my own way in this world.

TANSTAAFL... ;)

Yeah, I expect nothing great from the Democrats and really do not like their slogans of "hope" and all this. "Hope" is a campaign slogan you should seen in the Congo, not a first-world democracy.

@light -I did some searching and found out some interesting things about that saying.
1) it was a political cartoon
2)its real goal was to poke fun at liberal media bias.

The parts being left off are that the speaker was a little girl, preteen.AND she was saying this to her father, who than comments to the litle girl "You really have your heart set on a career in network news eh ?

To which the girl child says "Hey someone has to be the next Katie Couric"

But it seems to have been adopted and used out of context by the liberals, who probably dont even know its origin :P

Heres as far as i can find, the original.

Tkobo,

Thanks! Actually I love that comic. It is pretty "fair and balanced", meaning it rips a new one to whomever deserves it....meaning everyone. lol The little girl is smart as a whip and borrows modern media and political strategies to deal with normal kid stuff. As to leftists quoting things out of context? "I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!" :P

Red- I agree, although campaign slogans in Africa usually involve calibers.

That was the original place I saw it, I've always thought it at least mildly apt anyhow. And the kid isn't entirely unrealistic either, I've been thoroughly surprised by a couple kids I've met. Very rare though.
