More orders have been approved, including some for the next generation which has better range and carry capacity.Id put up some numbers, but the various stories covering it seem a bit confused...It does look like the additional amount of next gen is 6 at this time though.

According to a story at the Naval-Technology.com Web site, dated Jan. 3, and several other publications, the U.S. Navy has awarded a modification contract to the Bell-Boeing Joint Program (Amarillo, Texas) to develop and deliver 21 additional V-22 Osprey aircraft.

Deployment of the last 10-12 ospreys to Okinawa have been delayed, as a hh60 helicopter crashed yesterday.Fortunately, unlike the 2004 heli crash, this one went down in an unpopulated heavy woods area.

Word is an Osprey crashed (hard landed) in nevada in august. No serious injuries reported, but the aircraft was a total loss due to a fire that started and spread after the "hard landing". They might want to look at that,as well as why the crash occurred.Ive read a few reports about ospreys starting ground fires when they land.

The osprey is currently under going tests for a possible role as an aerial refueler. The first couple of tests have been completed successfully, with f-18's .

Looks like the Israelis will be the first foreign users of the Osprey. This should now provide them with a good deep insertion tool for their special operations folks to conduct raids and such.
