I like this thread there is no America or Russia bashing/flaiming :-) . A UN security council meeting is good, that means that representatives from Russia, EU and USA will meet and get to discuss face to face the issues. They can also ask Russia themselves of their intetions instead of relying on their own media and intelligence services(which haven't lately been that accurate about geopolitics and been focusing much resources on domestic and foreign civilian spying).

Ok, we are now getting conflicting reports that Russia has officially invaded Crimea. Reuters is reporting that Russia has invaded, while RT is more vauge, they say they have secured the authority to do so and that their movements are legal and in accordance with agreements with Ukraine. I am still unsure if they have invaded beyond Sevastopol, but the 'militia' that has, seems to be somehow involved with Russia atleast. So Russia is not innocent, alteast Russia has given them the goahed to occupy Crimea, in worst case they are actually Russian state forces in different uniforms and without insignias. There is also spreading protests in eastern Ukraine that are Pro-Russian, which RT is claiming them to be big protests.

EDIT "Ukraine’s Navy flagship, the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, has reportedly refused to follow orders from Kiev, and come over to Russia’s side and is returning home after taking part in NATO operation in the Gulf of Aden flying the Russian naval flag." - RT News

The **** storm is about to happen there...

This footage is from yesterday...Mi-24 hinds (I counted around 11 of them) flying over a road near Sevastopol Airport. Really impressive sight I must admit, chilled my bones :-?

According to one of the RT links I added above, states that the prime minister of crimea has asked Russia for help and that Ukraine sent 'Armed gunmen' to secure parts of Crimea which was repelled by Crimea's 'Self-defense Squads'. The Ukrainian invasion, russian counter invasion could now come trough. Sooner than I thought :-?

Crimea has also asked all ukrainian units to join the gov in Crimea. The Russian source is not directly admitting Russian military involment, they are although motivating one. Russia has also promised the disbanded Berkut members Russian citizenship. This is coming from Russia itself. The conflict/war is on...

There is points to the Russian view, but I don't support solving problems with violence. I also dislike the current Ukrainian gov since it has made many eastern Ukrainians feel excluded and provoked them to protests and yell for Russian support, which gives some legitamacy to an limited Russian intervention. So the Kiev gov is not going about this in an very smart way.

The official position of the Russian gov can be heard at in the vid. The Speaker of state duma urges Putin to make an intervention...

The question is now what will the Ukrainian military do? Also what will the US and EU do about the crisis? Russia will most certanly fight to keep it's Crimean naval base. This thing could possible explode out of hand if the west makes the wrong moves

EDIT: Holycrap! Ukraine threatens to go Nuclear within 6months.

Idle threats. Ukraine doesn't have enriched uranium and doesn't enriches it. Also they have no money to buy or build (enriched uranium or enriching industry).
The "dirty bombs" can be created much faster. But this is a terrorist technique.
Also, Ukraine nuclearization is violation of Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances. It will cancel an obligation from the US and UK.

Scary, what if you woke up to a similar scene one morning with a bunch of Mil mi chopers flying over head... Hopefully those won't have to be used for their real purpose, war.

So there's an exodus of Ukrainians for Russia, which is hostile against the Ukraine gov atm. This is also pictures RT posts of it's Crimean takeover on twitter. Reuters also reports about US proposing sending monitors to Ukraine which would be a good idea.

Ukrainian military camp was blocked. Photos: http://www.kp.ru/photo/gallery/54538/
Ukrainian marines in darker camo and open faces.
Webcams at customs offices don't confirm this, for example: http://www.bel.ru/webcam/cam1.jpg

Yup, that was what I thought, why would people flee when there is at least atm no fighting there

EDIT: Meanwhile, American media ain't doing any better, Fox news in their video repotage leaves out key details of why Russia is occupying Crimea. What would America do if Hawai'i was or any other key military bases where threatened by a neighbor? And not too long ago Russia was lecturing the US when it was going around breaking international law and now the situtation is reversed. OR how many times has the US used 'It's citizens being there' excuse to intervene. Quite comic sometimes to watch top level politics going on. The only Great Power at the moment being largely non-interventionist is China, sure having disputes close by, but not to my knowledge doing large scale meddling.
