My favorite SR2010 artillery units were always the Rhino and the Panzerhaubitze.
It's the Rhinohaubitze!

I have been fighting these a variants of these in my current 2020 game, If they had full batteries setup SA would have really put some damage on me with them.

Eh, I'm still not sold on Wheeled SPAG's. The auto fire feature on the 155mm is pretty nice though. Shoot 5-10 rounds and then scoot out of there before counter-battery fire can be deployed. Pretty effective.

Did they go with the wheeled design because of the terrain of South Africa?

Probably, and it makes sense, since your operating in a desert enviroment without a lot of rain, with many hard surfaces to run on. Also has to do with the type of missions they've been engaged in; They've had a history of using wheeled vehicles due to the type of conflics they mostly engage in, such as dealing with border raids, that require high speed and mobility in generally open desert terrain. ( See Angola/SA conflict in the mid-80's)Ruges wrote:Did they go with the wheeled design because of the terrain of South Africa?
Wheeled stuff is also more effective when traveling greater distances; most tracks wear out after 1-2K miles, while wheels last significantly longer. They've up untill now been avoided due to vulnerability issues, but moderen run flats address some of these issues. Still, a guy with a high powered sniper rifle could disable a wheeled vehicle while a tracked platform would be fine.

I got no problem with that, but someone combined my two favorite artillery pieces into one and that deserved to be mentioned
