In 2006, Norwegian newspapers reprinted Danish cartoons that angered Muslims by lampooning Muhammad.

Latest update.

One suspect has been caught alive and is now being interrogated. He is a ethnic Norwegian male, age 32 and he has proclaimed himself as a "nationalist". He owns a farm and thus has had easy access to fertilizers. So far 17 people are confirmed dead. 7 after the bombings and 10 after the shooting. There are also many casualties including some who are very wounded and might not make it. The number of dead might not be final as there might be some people missing.

About the bombings.
Apparently there is a lot of confusion on this still. Some witnesses has reported that they heard several blasts and pictures of the damage indicate that at least one bomb has been detonated in the Government HQ. The downtown area is still locked down as they are still searching for more bombs and will be during the night and well into the morning.

About the shooting.
Shootings started a few hours after the bombings. The suspect raided an annual gathering of AUF, the youth organization of Arbeiderpartiet, Norways ruling political party. The gathering was located on a small island and there were around 700 teenagers and adults there. Reports indicate the youngest to be around 14 - 15 years old. The suspect had dressed himself in a fake police uniform and identified himself as a police officer thus gaining access to the island. Once there he started shooting people and lured people to him using his cover executing them when he had the chance. A lot of people panicked and started swimming from the island. The suspect tried to shoot people as they swimmed for safety. They found an undetonated bomb in a truck on the island.

All in all it's just a tragic, cowardly act made by a truly sick individual. I am still slightly shocked by all this. It's the most dramatic thing to happen to Norway since WW2.

Before committing the terrorist act the Breivik posted to WWW the document entitled "Declaration of Independence in Europe 2083". Russia has repeatedly mentioned in that manifesto as an ideal of the political system. In one part it he says how to raise a modern, culturally-conservative, patriotic youth, and gives example of the organization "Nashi". The author also notes that non-functioning mass democracy in Europe should be replaced by a managed form of democracy, like the Russia.

Ahem... obviously this man had never been at Russia. Another one conservative... The conservatism and the liberalism must be included in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

The official count has been adjusted down. There are still over 90 people seriously injured though so the number is likely to rise again...

Today around 1000 motorcyclists drove in a convoy down to Utøya to pay their respects to the fallen. Also included in the convoy was members of the rivaling MC gangs Bandidos, Hells Angels and Outlaws, who left their differences aside for this event. The convoy was cheered by onlookers as they passed.
