However, outside war when a person or group kills people it is always wrong. Its murder.
This is difference in viewpoints and outlooks. People of Al-Qaeda and similar believed that there is a war. After 2001 US began to believe to the same.

That bombs ended the war, good or bad way.

BTW, I've been reading stuff about the end of WWII and the start of the Cold War from many sources (wonder why? ;) ) and agree that the two bombs where necessary. The Japanese mindset could not have been changed any other way and there would have been equal loss of life from a protracted end to the war.

Interestingly, whose sources?

If the Americans have provided some logistics for the Russian, it will build the People's Japan Republic with no casualties from the West :-)

Plenty of casualties from Japan though I'd wager, and isn't that the objection against dropping the bombs in the first place?

Japan's code of honor prevented them from surrendering. It was dishonorable to. Everyone knows that. They treated the US prisoners of war with disrespect because they were captured alive.
Now if Japan was invaded, not only would they have not surrendered, they would have commited suicide to avoid capture. This wouldn't be just the military, but civilians too. Imagine the images the allies would have seen.
I will always condemn the use of nukes, but with Japan, the US chose the lesser of 2 evils.

The understanding I got from a former marine, the rules of engagement and conducting war is different between ground forces and air force. What been murder for ground forces, would be the systematic reduction of the workforce and reducing the will to fight of a region by the air force, hince carpeting bombing with naplam or the air force using nukes.
In war destroy everything even the livestock.

I'm not believing BL is dead till I see the picture... This is way too fishy. Perhaps a trick by Obama to stay in power.
I cant play SR2020 well but I still love 2010. Chris will hate me for exploiting his game to death.

I'm curious as to what sources these are. I've also seen data that the Japanese were attempting to surrender with the only term being that we allowed them to retain their emperor (which we allowed anyways after the fact). This leads me to believe that this was more of a weapons test/demonstration for the Soviets.

He's the duly elected President of the USA, he doesn't need to do anything to stay in power, and if this was a power play it would make much more sense to perform an 'October surprise' directly prior to the election if it was a re-election ploy. Considering the current slate of candidates opposing him, his current re-election chances are quite high.

Lately I've been reading this;

The Real History of the Cold War
A New Look at the past
Axelrod, Alan (Book - 2009)

but that's taking us further off topic. Then again, he is still dead, so... :shrug:

Perhaps Bin Laden was dead long ago and buried... Now they might try to counter this tactic by accepting he died in US hands.

Do you remember the differences in his last "videos"?

@Hullu

The "Race Card"... Really? You are calling me a racist because of the German Holocaust against the Jews in WWII? Again... Rich. Especially since I am 1/2 German. ...and yet some of you wonder why I don't come here every day. We can debate "right/wrong, cause/effect" all you want. But the last time I checked, "German" is a nationality. "Germanic" is a racial group.

As for Truman... The A-Bombs ended a war. The 9-11 attacks officially began one. Is that too complicated a difference for everyone to recognize?
