The Chinese government is threatening foreign correspondents that their visas will be revoked if they continue to try to report on demonstrations held as part of a Chinese “Jasmine Revolution.”
The move is the latest in a series of harsh measures authorities have taken recently, seeking to ensure that popular movements aimed at overthrowing autocratic regimes in the Middle East do not spread to China.

Over the past 10 days, scores of human rights activists and noted lawyers have been detained, disappeared, or put under house arrest, according to reports gathered by Human Rights in China, a New York based watchdog organization. The word “jasmine” has been censored from many websites.

Police smothered any weekend protests before they had a chance of forming, and some foreign reporters who went to the scene of the would-be gathering on the Wangfujing shopping street in downtown Beijing were beaten up.

Police have rounded up dozens of dissidents since online messages from abroad urged pro-democracy gatherings inspired by the "Jasmine Revolution" in Tunisia. Internet censorship also means that few Chinese residents are aware of the protest calls.

They are adopting a new strategy.Instead of calling for a protest, they are now encouraging people to get a friend and "go for a walk".They are hoping this will make it harder to stop, as security would now have to consider every person on the streets as a potential protester.

And it will give the protesters a chance to create actual protests "on the fly" ,so to speak.If when out for their walk, they see enough people in an area,,they could try right then and there to form one at that time.If not, they would just continue walking til they found an area with enough people,or gave up for the day.
