And why couldn't the Islamofundies use that exact same tactic? The Mubarak Government isn't the only group who knows how to use fear of chaos and desire for stability to grab power.

"We only have three months to educate the people in and outside Cairo about pluralism, active citizenship, tolerance, how to evaluate the platforms of candidates. We don't have enough time. We need to work, work, and work," Fattah said.
"We discovered that making a revolution is much easier than democracy building," said Basem Fathy, political activist and projects director for EDA. "Democracy is a not a moment or event, it's a continuous practice and process about understanding."

While I am sure that your Mother is quite politically crafty, I am not sure that you are thinking it through far enough. When is the best time to pull a risky maneuver? When everyone will think it is someone else if you get caught of course! Why not cause chaos and blame it on the previous government? I'll grant that you know the situation far better than I do, but please try not to let preconceived ideas and "bad guys" completely form your opinions. Use your Allah given brain and take a few minutes to think in "devious" mode. If you still think that the former government is behind it, that is fine, but you will have given honest consideration to other possible answers instead of simply jumping to the exact conclusion the perpetrators wanted you to. Those who seek political power are like sociopathic lawyers. Normal people have to actually try to think in the twisted and amoral paths that their brains use every day.

I understand what you mean ,& i did think about it when you first mentioned it & i thought what a nice spin this would be ,but after reading about what happened & after the Current Prime minister of Egypt said that he as well believes that amn el dawla is responsible ,& so did many officials & in fact so far 50 arrests of leaders of amin el dawla has been made .

I see the US as being in a no-win on this one. They've already been in two wars against Muslim countries recently. A third really would look bad. They have to make this one completely through official (UN or Nato).

There's more to contrast than compare with 1999. Not least military capability.

Possible participants lifted from elsewhere:

"International contributions (as of post):

-NATO :
3 AWACS planes

-US:
USS Enterprise group

-France:
Some precisions about the French deployment, from several sources

French Carrier Strike Group, starting deployment on Sunday.
- Charles de Gaulle (Aircraft Carrier) with :
- 4th Flotille (2 Hawkeyes)
- 12th Flotille (Rafale F2 Squadron)
- 17th Flotille (Super Etendard Squadron)
- 35th Flotille + Air Force (6 CSAR Helicopters : 2 Dauphins, 1 Alouette III, 1 Puma, 2 Caracals)
- Dupleix (ASW Frigate)
- Aconit (Frigate)
- La Meuse (Tanker)

Already near the coast of Libya :
- Forbin (AA Frigate)

Air Force Strike Force :
2 Mirage 2000D from 3.3 Ardennes
8 Rafale from 1.7 Provence
2 Mirage 2000-5 from 1.2 Cigognes

KC-135 from GRV 2.93 Bretagne
C-160 Transall from squadrons 1.61 Touraine et 1.64 Béarn.

-Spain:
4 F/A 18 planes
1 Sea Vigilance plane (Probably P3 Orion)
1 Boeing 707
1 F100 Frigate
1 S70 Class submarine
(Possible sending of "Principe de Asturias" Carrier)

-Belgium:
6 F16 figthers
1 Minehunter "Narcis"

-Canada:
8 CF-18 planes

-UK:
Typhoon and Tornado aircraft.

-Denmark:
6 F16 figthers

-Greece:
4 F16 fighters
2 Super Puma Eurocopters
1 Embraer R-99

-Norway:
6 F16 Fighters

Committed/deciding to participate but no info:

Italy: ??? planes
Qatar
UAE
Jordan
Saudi Arabia
Netherlands
Sweden"

Done right this could go quick. Build it up steadily while holding out carrot options for some of those with power close to Gadaffi. But the intensity should continue to grow while Gadaffi remains. A side has been chosen- ethically quickness has strong merits.

I'd say it's hard for US and UK for overstretch. And keeping a reserve for who knows what's next.

actually that is not true at all ,because unlike iraq & afghanistan ,the Libyan people & the Arab world stands behind the Western military intervention ,although i would have preferred a pure arab intervention lead by egypt & Saudi Arabia, but what the west should avoid at all costs is sending troops on the ground because it will be preserved as an occupation & the public opinion will change swiftly ,but my fear is that by the time the attacks cause damage to the remaining military forces lead by Qaddafi the people would have suffered too much losses & the world will then accept Qaddafi remaining in power once more & this will end the so called domino effect that has spread through out the arab world & also what is going on in bahrain is horrible as well !!!!

I hope the Arab world will roar up in revolution and finally send these self-serving "Malik"'s packing up.

Sadly, all of them have a huge amount stocked in Switzerland.

Laurent Teisseire told reporters in Paris that four Qatari warplanes will join the operation alongside French warplanes.
In addition, the UAE provided for participation in the operation 24 aircraft, Qatar - four to six.
Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi confirmed that Italian bases would be available to help enforce the no-fly zone over its former colony, adding that further Italian participation could follow.
