New malware detected that can seize control of industrial facilities and run them ,even causing them to damage themselves.This is being declared a "first",mainly because of the specifics of how it works to cause real world damage and remain undetected.

....than again,it could have been created by some econut,who plans to attack operating nuclear power plants worldwide,causing huge nuclear accidents across the board.

An amateur profile workup for the stuxnet creator ..

Perhaps what we really have here is someone born on May 9, 1979, probably male. This 31 year old Taurus is very adept at programming and probably has first-hand knowledge of SCADA systems. He has enough patience and determination to ferret out 4 separate zero day vulnerabilities - the kind of determination driven more by emotion than money. He's studied botany enough that when he typed a folder name for "my RTUs" he instantly realized it matched myrtus aka the myrtle genus, and hence named the file guava. He also natively equates soccer with futbol. He may have strong environmental opinions and more than a casual interest in astrology.

According to the BBC, it was created by the US DOD & Homeland Security to defend against cyber attacks, apperently it's working, it's been counter-attacking China!

Whats been confirmed is just as interesting as whats being speculated.

*For instance,that the virus was designed to initially infect from a USB device,rather then an email or the net.

*Then theres the countries being reported as having got hit the most,and their connections to each other.

*And of course that the known "timeline" for stuxnet is almost 2 years so far.With the first variant being traced back to nov 2008.

*Then of course theres irans claim of having arrested "spies" who spread the virus.

*That an american security consultant predicted such an attack as a way to deal with irans nuke plants back in 2009.

*And that the virus actually updates itself.
