Imagine that.AND it only took him decades to figure this out, and only then when he is no longer "number one running things" does he figure it out.

Of course, chavez in now implementing a food card system, thats likely to turn out to be a replica of the food ration card cuba uses.And other south american countries are still lining up to be the next cubas.

The castro interview appears worth the read by the way, he reverses his stance on a few of his actions ,like in the cuban missile crisis for example.The full interview isnt online yet, but the excerpts ive seen are worth reading.

He's no longer number one, his brother is now, so he can admit the failures and use those admissions to set himself up as a "statesman" for cuba.He's simply trying to remain relevant and on the stage.

Castro now says he did say that, but meant it completely differently....

The meaning hes now attributing to his words,is well..... hard to see how he could say such, and mean something so different.

His comments about being "betrayed by Khrushchev" who he basically calls a "drunk" who "supplied cuban secrets to the us" is rather off beat also.

Though he still says he would have recommended use of nukes if the us had invaded cuba.

Wasn't there even a confederate plan to annex cuba as a 'slave state'? , Though I think there is many good thing in Cuba, the overall situation is... well it could be better.

I believe you are correct about the Confederate plan. I do not recall the details. It may have been simply the pro slavery senators and congressmen trying to add another slave state before the war.

Too much freedom is no freedom, no freedom is no freedom. You know, a little socialism is not that bad, here we have free health care, low insurances compared to yours(I pay 45-85 €/y in insurances, not that much in my opinion), But then again we have comparably higher taxes then others(everyone has personal taxation, the poor pay less tax and the rich pay higher tax). So we have socialism in Finland, but we do also have freedom and capitalism, we still have free markets etc... So in my opinion, a little "socialism" would be good, especially in the healthcare/insurance sectors. Also why would socialism make you "slaves" to the state? Let me ask you something, what would happine if your wife/husband/mother/father/you one day where hit by a truck while on your way to work and the insurance company refused you(lets say for the sake of argument, that you where responsible)? how much would it cost? I saw a documentary ones where a woman had to pay hundreds of dollars for her medication, but then she went to cuba and bought the same meds for a few cents... it was a well known documentary maker, cant right now remember his name...

Afraid of the Swedes? noo... they have a slightly stronger economy then us, they are no threat to be afraid of. Russia, I think that the finns are both angered and afraid of the Russian because of there size and past/current actions.

I'm not atleast flaming, i'm debating the fact that not everything in socialism is bad and not every socialist policy takes away your freedom.
