Lightbringer wrote:**shrugs** Then if waiting four years makes it extra special, waiting 40 years would make it super-duper deluxe? If the World Cup is the shiznit, why play all that local two bit crap? Have every country eligible and start with regional elimination tournaments. Do the regionals in the spring and the big shebang in the fall. I really don't care all that much, but you can't claim "The World's Game" and then put the importance of localized leagues above the World Cup. FYI, I attend a few FC Dallas games now and then. I don't dislike the sport. I just see room for improvement in the Cup and how it is set up.

That's good, I would also love to see a world cup every year but that is just not possible =/
Imagine that the whole world loved the american football. Now imagine a superball hapenning every year in every contry(beside the sectional[city] and regional[state]). Now try to make a Continental event. now go for olympics an panamerican and others of the sort also go for the second biggest event on the planet(global) just smaller than the olympics(that is just big couse of this sport) well I would also have to add the continental and inter continental of the league teams.
I would love to but I simply don't see how =(

Perhaps many of the regions who participate are already over their quotas in riots, power failures, drunken brawls,etc...and hence cant hold more soccer matches as this would push them even farther past their quotas .....?

Well another shock with Germany losing to Serbia 1-0. Makes me a bit nervous about England's game tonight tho, hope not another shock.

Anyone want to discuss the goal stripped from the US, costing them the game? :-?

That ref made the worst calls I have ever seen in any sporting event during that game.

Evidently FIFA has decided that all the money floating around the U.S. sporting market is less important than getting in a nice Anti American jab. They must have thought they were the U.N. or something...

But seriously, after reading a sober analysis (http://hotair.com/archives/2010/06/18/w ... -from-u-s/) I have decided that FIFA is a bunch of idiots regardless of if they had done this to Slovenia in the U.S. favor, or to any other team for that matter.
Most referees are unwilling to penalize the defending team, preferring to reject goals rather than give them.
I understand the whole "Every rare goal is supremely important" thing. But really? You are going to ignore a huge gaping lopsided flaw in your officiating system just to keep goals down? Would the game be any less intense if average scores were 3-2 instead of 1-1? You don't have to institute instant replay or change the rules, just hire an extra freaking Ref to help watch for multiple fouls and have offsetting fouls negate each other. Or you can keep watching a sport where the Refs decide who will win, not the teams playing the game. I personally am not interested in watching a game where blatant fouls are ignored simply for the purpose of allowing as few goals as possible. Why not start carding players for kicking the ball towards the opponent's goal?

I saw that a really bad decision by the ref. It was the Slovenian players that were fouling the USA players so the ref should have left it with the goal. I dont know why he gave a free kick to Slovenia
