well we are Arabs because we are in the Arab league and we do it for the money. I don't believe the majority of Lebanese are Arabs, that goes the same for Syria and much of the Levant. Is it then correct to say Somalia is Arab? Politicians and their fat bellies dont wish to say we are or at least have a good amount of Phoenician in us, even though National Geographic came and DNA tested many of us including me which i found a big surprise at my results. It is politically correct to say Lebanese are Arabs.

Arab, or Phoenician, does it matter? I do not understand the incredible desire to name oneself as a slightly different ethnic name even though the two groups have been intertwined so long they are like Hutu and Tutsi.

I'm Turkish, yet you can name my origin as Mediterranean and Anatolian and I wouldn't care. I have 1/8 Armenian and 1/8 Kurd as well if I am not mistaken.

Yes it does matter it's my Pride and my people. I wouldn't want to be grouped with another grouped that actually persecuted and tried toeliminate my people for 13centuries. No the Phoenicians did not originate from Arabia as the Arabs would claim. I guess its a bit different in Turkey. In The Lebanon to the majority of people Religion is #1 then comes ethnicity, we live in a country that is so beautiful and so many possibilities to be rich but with a people who have a half brain. I guess that's how i was raised since all these years of war we don't want to be grouped with a group that fought with us for so many years. Any ways, I dont want to go off topic here and do some identity battle.

Yeah. I can be called Turkish but when you try tracing all the DNA's, you can't find more than a few genes that are related to the ones migrating from Central Asia. The caliphate mercenaries and their tribesmen that came in here was less than 15% of the population in Anatolia. I have more in common to the original inhabitants of here, namely Sumerians, Persians,Alexander's Hellenized asiatics and what have you.
