Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
When I just read the quote I thought that was a sensible idea, but I agree, the story points to a problem that likely needs some correcting. Then again, real numbers are missing from the piece, but hey, who needs accountability?
Anyway, pretty rich that soemone like Boehner has an opinion on the subject that goes beyond calling everyone who disagrees with him a socialist. Who knew you'd ever hear an opinion from the guy that went beyond a talking point, neatly packaged in a ten second sound bite
Also, not really want to tell him how to do his job, but that kind of insight would have been helpful during the deliberations on the health care bill, not so much after...
Of course, I understand it's much more exciting to demonize your opponent with rediculuos hyperbole than, you know, actualy govern. :sigh:

Says the new health administrator, appointed by obama thru the backdoor known as a recess appointment."Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must, must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent health care is by definition redistributional.†" It's not a question of whether we will ration health care. It is whether we will ration with our eyes open."
"senate confirmation is an essential process prescribed by the Constitution that serves as a check on executive power and protects Montanans and all Americans by ensuring that crucial questions are asked of the nominee -- and answered."
So not only does medicare fail to meet its bills almost every year,BUT it turns down more claims than any single private insurance firm,AND is a full 2%+ higher in turndowns than the private average.American Medical Associations (AMA)2008 Health Insurer Report Card:
Payer - % claims denied
Aetna - 6.80%
Anthem - 4.62%
CIGNA - 3.44%
Coventry - 2.88%
Health Net - 3.88%
Humana - 2.90%
Medicare - 6.85%
UHC - 2.68%

Perhaps you should do your own research. The idea for that Google search took me maybe 2 seconds to think of and type in. Basically, you just exposed yourself as exhibiting the behavior that you attributed to Boehner. Try thinking, researching, learning, and judging for yourself instead of simply parroting the last "ten second talking point sound bite" you heard from Chris Mathews or whatever other hack you watch. Agreeing or disagreeing with Republican/Conservative ideas is up to you. Claiming they have none is dishonest and/or lazy.

Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
Just this Friday NICE announced that the Roche/Genentech drug Avastin could not be used by certain breast cancer patients. It estimated that Avastin, which costs $2,500 for two weeks, only extended the life of breast patients by seven weeks. That wasn't enough to justify the expense, NICE chief executive Sir Andrew Dillon said. NICE, combined with England's command-and-control health care system, helps keep health costs far lower in that country than here.

Millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are being spent on contracts that deter doctors from speaking out about incompetence and mistakes in patient care.

The new law creates 68 grant programs, 47 bureaucratic entities, 29 demonstration or pilot programs, six regulatory systems, six compliance standards and two entitlements.
Getting that massive enterprise up and running will be next to impossible. So Democrats streamlined the process by granting Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the authority to make judgments that can’t be challenged either administratively or through the courts.

Yup, nothing like trying to run things and having over a 30% waste factor....And being the government, they praised that "efficiency".

Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
Hmmm... actually for the Federal Government, a 30% waste factor is enormously efficient. Too bad it was 30% waste factor on a pretty straightforward task like getting one single, easy to assign (one dose, one person) product to market. Hell, the Post office could have mailed each and every household the proper number of doses inside of two week's time frame. Yeah, I know it is/was more complicated than that. Still, the failure on the logistical level is a good indicator of how incompetent these people are, and how incompetently they shall assume the role of health care arbiters.

Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
bill gates has come out and said again, what many already knew he believed, that "medical resources/care were being wasted on the old".
And that death panels should exist to make sure the old dont get those few extra months or years, becuase its too costly.Even going as far as to say it will be required to cut costs under obamacare.
And yes, as any who looked at gates knows,he's a eugenicist, just like many in the obama administration and many in the leadership of the modern environmental movements.
Gates went even further in talking about how his charity org was going to lower global populations thru vaccines and better healthcare.

The court delivered its verdict late Thursday, in what was one of Italy's most notorious cases of health care gone awry. Prosecutors produced evidence that unneeded operations, including amputations, were performed on 83 patients at the Santa Rita clinic in Milan with the aim of getting large reimbursements from the state health system.

Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
A republican Governor, with plans for 2012,has just made what is probably the first organ for freedom deal ever in the US .Two sisters who recruited and organized a group of teens, one of which was only 14 ,to help them rob people, that had been caught and given life sentences are now going to be be freed.
One of the conditions ?That one of the convicted felons give the other convicted felon one of her kidneys. Its estimated that this deal will save the state of MS circa $200K a year in medical bills (minus those incurred by the transplant),which the gov has openly admitted was part of the reason he decided on this course.

I haven't read all the posts, but have someone considered universal health care? and you do not become communist or "socialist" just because you would have UHC(Universal Health Care). UHC would be cheaper for the citizens and would probably also make the insurances cheaper.

Re: Great Moments in Nationalized Health Care...
it works reasonably effectively in the UK, and of course, theres nothing stopping you from upgrading to private health care, just look at bupa. I quite like the idea of the organ for freedom, at least that way they are giving something back to society (or at least not taking 200K a year). Hell, they may even learn something from the experience and become different people (hopefully better).
