So when someone asks you if you want some orange juice you get all offended and think they are offering you Hebraic human beings painted or dyed orange? How on Earth can you not be able to differentiate between the two words?

Anyway, as I said, I was making fun of the original sign holder, and comparing the Swiss vote against minarets to that. If you are Jewish and are sensitive to anti-Jewish hate speech, then I apologize for any confusion.

I suspect the Swiss are on the leading edge of a wider and larger groundswell.

The issue leaves me ambivalent. Frankly, I could care less. However, I can't hold the Swiss in lower esteem for simply protecting their culture. As noted above, certain Islamic countries have no issue with protecting thier own culture and religious sensitivities.

Turnabout is fair play.

And, it isn't as if Islam is going out of its way to endear itself to the infidel lands. The concept of religious tolerance, while not an entirely Western construct, is practiced considerably differently across the globe. As I understand it, under most of the practiced Islamic law, a non-Muslim can pay an extra tax for practicing their religion -- or they can otherwise be killed.

Compared to that, zoning and architectual regulations seem small potatoes. Think about it, can you even imagine the outcry had the Swiss passed a tax for being a Muslim!!?!!

It is vain. The sign is spiteful and not foolish - unlike Swisses. They should follow after that

That would be unfair.

Last Jizya tax was 100 years ago.

I'm glad the Swiss are protecting their culture though.

that is completely wrong .non muslims used to pay taxes(al jizya) not for practicing their religion but it was like they were paying to get out of the military ,because non-muslims were not allowed in the army & it was on conquered nations ,they were had two choices either convert to Islam or pay al jizya & to say that the minaret ban is to protect Switzerland culture is untrue & inaccurate the muslim in Switzerland are not that much & to compare Switzerland to the ban of Churches in iran is crazy,Switzerland should be a democratic country were all people are free to practice their believes right ???

A person can be "spiteful" and "foolish" at the same time. Also, I agree with your suggestion for the Swiss.

@Feltan

You betcha. I wasn't "dissing" the Swiss for protecting their culture. I was just not impressed with how they chose to go about it. From the pathetic, unfair, and ineffective way that they have been and are dealing with the problems, one might almost guess that authoritarian, left wing governments actually wanted their poor working class to have an object for their frustration and anger other than their own bureaucratic butts. :roll:

You are probably quite correct in that statement. Very Swiss-like! Instead of rattling war sabers like Iran and North Korea to placate a discontent population, the Swiss merely changed a zoning ordanance! :lol:
