Best strategy game

the original Blitzkrieg, i didnt like the second one..
C&C Generals is alright, but i wouldnt list it in the top games of all time
World in conflict is really good, i find it really tough though, i cant get past this one mission :S

I love XCOM: Ufo defence, loathe XCOM: Terror from the Deep and haven't really tried XCOM: Apocalypse.

I'd like to vote for a few:

- War in the Pacific (WITP) & War in the Pacific Admirals Edition. Probably spent more time with this game than any other.
- HOI 2 and now HOI 3. These are a close second to the above.
- Steel Panthers. Great game, but getting too dated for my taste.
- Take Command 2nd Manassas. Great game by small publisher (now defunct).
- Silent Hunter Series. I personally love sub games. Love the career options. Hate depth charges.

Interestingly, other than WITP which I play-by-email almost exclusivley, all the others (including SR2010/2020) I play against the AI.

First person shooters and flight sims can be fun, but aren't really strategy games. I like them for an occasional diversion, but they don't hold my attention for long.

PC gamer did an artical on X-com a few months back. Heh I bet its sales have increased over the last few months becouse of it.

But I also want to add to the list. Panzer Generals, and TOAoW (The Operational Art of War) that game was very heavily stat orintated, And takes a real arm chair general to play. And one of the steepeset learning curves out there.

I can't stand the boat missions. The levels are much too big and take too long to complete imho.

I have it in my collection, but have not played it since 1998. Maybe I should revisit it.
