Will never happen for the very reason which makes the UN less than worthless:

it is run by nations that are either NON-democratic or ANTI-democratic.

Point of example being Russia and China.

And its so easy to see what happens:

Beirut supports the Syria despotic regime because said regime murdered anyone who opposed their occupation of Beirut. Iran supports Syria a) because they use them to channel funds and weapons to any terrorist organization who promise to at least use some of their weapons against Israeli, american and eurpoean women and children and b) because Iran uses Syria as a buffer state against civilization, democracy and civili liberties.
China uses Iran to get cheap oil just as Iran uses China to get cheap weapons ... and to destabalize all those who might opposee chinese world hegemony and draw attention away from chinese crimes against humanity...

Russia uses anyone to elevate their own powerbase.

And the UN is completely impotent because of the STUPID institution of "the Veto"

Useless piece of outdated crap .... as impotent and worthless as the league of nations !

Annan told the Security Council that UN peace keepers, joined by more members of his staff, will arrive in Syria this week to continue preparations for a monitoring and supervisory mission of the UN.
Word is some are already there, just not "active " yet.How they can tell an active un peacekeeper sitting in a room somewhere from an inactive peacekeeper sitting in a room somewhere must be about the amount of pay they get :P

OH JOY ...

Now they have an corrupted idiot, who have never ever achieved anything other than to get his idiot son a well-paid UN job, trying to do something that he never achieved as general secretary.

The bald faced stupidity and irrationality it takes to make that leap of faith is truly mindboggling.

At any rate then none of the agressors and their controllers expect the fool to actually DO anything ... otherwise he would never have been allowed to enter the conflict.

Once again UN demonstrates its incomptence, impotence and systemic and institutional complete lack of worth !

And the first batch of "peace monitors" is now officially in syria.Difference between a "monitor" and a "keeper" ?Well monitors are not allowed to be armed or to intervene in any way other than standing around and watching.

So in practice, theres really almost no difference as un peacekeepers usually dont use their weapons and as often as not, simply sit around and claim to watch things anyway.

Meanwhile regions in the country are still under bombardment by their own army.......

Well, one reason for the peacekeepers 'inactivity' is, well, their "peacekeepers" with the word peace in it, now it is not that peaceful if your shooting at others. Often peacekeepers also come from countries that only provides a ground unit with limited supplies and leaves the resupplying to the UN. The UN isn't really a military organization that keeps large amounts of ammunition stockpiles around but relies on members states to provide it, so there's some buerocratic problems, it could be that Iraq, Germany and South Africa provides the peacekeepers, but US and South Africa provides the ammunition. The UN has also other problems. So if the UN peacekeepers started shooting, they would promptly loose and be killed, considering they are probably in a country that has a sizable Army. :-)

Precisely ...

Which is obviously just one of many resons why UN is utterly worthless and a sad joke. Very much like the League of nations.

The fact of the matter is that the UN´s "intervention" only serves to cements Assads regime. Thus once again the anti-democratic forces of the UN have triumphed. Now all we need is the incompetent and corrupt kleptocrat Annam to tell us that there will be peace in our time ...

The ceasefire that never was,is succeeding just as well as the observers who run away rather then observe.Anyone want to play "guess how much this mission costs ? "

On the positive side,no massive cholera outbreak in syria ,yet.

Hhehhehe, like there were some who actually couldnt see this coming.....The UN suspends its observer mission. All observer are back at the hotels playing their fiddles.

...now some may ask "well, but is there any real difference bewteen when the mission was operating, and now when its suspended ?"And the answer is ,"of course, the observers wont run away as much in their hotel".

Couldnt somebody do the sensible thing and suspend the UN ... ?

Just post a sign at the UN building:

"Closed for maintenance:
We advice all kleptocrats, dictators, massmurderers and other political dignitaries from pseudocountries and hereditary fiefdoms, to catch a movie and a cup of cofee in the meantime.

Kind regards
The lack of Leadership at the UN"

The US has actually tried a few times now, well the non-liberals in the us,but the liberals have blocked it each time.

The fix isnt that hard to see though,if you cant shut down the UN then make damn sure its held responsible. The Haiti cholera disaster and annans enabling of assad are both perfect examples.

The problem is that the worthless thing is irreplacable just as it is completely worthless - just like the League of Nations.

The similarity is striking: especially as we can see the sad farce in Syria unfold with new crazy twists everyday.

The problem is actually quite simple:

Most of the "nations" in the UN are medieval dictatorships governed by unenlightened dictators, who have absolutely no interest in spreading democracy, womens rights, common right under the law, free and fair trials, the right to assemble, the right to conduct free and fair elections etc.

Nepotism, corruption, etnocentricity, irrationality and plain stupidity are the order of the day and not the exception.

Coupled to which are the completely stupid and irrational concept of the permanent members of the security council and the even more stupid and irrational concept of The Veto.

WW3 have never been closer, nor have the UN been more paralyzed since its inception.

At my most positive, then its clear the UN have exactly ZERO worth or claim to existence.

At my less positive, then I find the UN to actually empower dictators and murderers like Assad or Mugabe. :-(

The problem is that it will take another world war to create something like the UN and it will probably be as useless as it predecessors ... assuming that democratic nations would win WW3 - which I somehow doubt...

The walking scandal annan just resigned as the "special peace envoy"

And hes more than happy to point the finger of blame for his "plans" failure,at everyone but himself.Even know,he's too stupid to see his fools errand for what it was...And how well he played the fool yet again.Time after time exclaiming to the world how well his "talks" went after each and every one.About all the progress made, after each and every talk.
