I recieved some word by email, that U.N. peacekeepers are going to be deployed to Somalia......

I havent found a news story yet confirming, but i "think" its pretty solid info

Sooooooo.... can anyone think of a region the U.N. could post a more impressive failure in than Somalia ?

Money wasted, U.N. peacekeepers killed, refuges killed in U.N. camps,..etc...I predict it all right now.

Found one

Things IRL are not like SR2020, tkobo!

Things on the ground are far more complicated than you can imagine.

So...would you rather that the UN doesn't do **** at all?
Will the U.S. intervene? (yeah...RIGHT)
The EU? AU? Who?
Who WILL DO **** if the UN doesn't....?
I like how you're blaming the ******* victim here...just think about it...
"The UN Sucks" says tkobo...well, well...thank Reagan for weakening the **** out of the UN.
WorldBank and IMF today hold way more "LEGITIMATE" power than the UN..look at their negotiating power and their budget compared to the UN...fortunatelly, though they have no arms...or do they????
America is in shits...so is the world and the UN is getting crapped on its head everytime they try to do something...it's like my father always says..:"the one who shits in his pants...the toilet bowl is gonna fall on him as well....." |O

Ethiopian, the main military force in Somolia is withdrawing.Officially they have finished their withdraw, but some units still remain to help protect the AU units.

The AU peacekeepng force, which is made up mainly of units from Uganda and Burundi ,have just put down an ultimatum, that demands better support or they are leaving. This force was supposed to consist of 8k men, but only reached about 4k, as the regions in the AU were unwillling to provide the very forces they voted for.

Which is why the U.N. is now planning to throw money and men into the area.

Currently Somalia is in an uglier situation than Congo, and the U.N. has and is failing with 17k men there.

The Ethiopian forces and the AU force that were in Somalia, had more open rules of engagement, and were more willing to fight, and they couldnt pull it off.

The U.N. force that gets deployed (and this could still fall thru)will have insanely tight operational rules,be badly supplied, undermanned, and unwilling to fight.
The result will be even worse than in the DRC mission.

And lets not forget,if this goes off, it will be the third time in under 20 years theyve put peacekeepers there.AND that in both previous times, the forces withdrew leaving things no better than they were before they got there.

UN forces need some leader with balls to attack if you ask me. They lack nothing in technology, yet they shiver in their boots for goodness's sake!

hmm, UNATCO in Deus Ex had some nice gear?

"The one who craps his pants... the toilet bowl is gonna fall on him as well."

This colloquialism has been gnawing at the back of my brain like a drunken termite all weekend. What the hell exactly is this supposed to mean? Perhaps I do not understand third world architecture and/or plumbing techniques, but here in America, toilet bowls do not usually fall on people's heads. Is this a common problem in other parts of the world? And since the guy crapped his own pants, would it not be better for him, having a relatively empty toilet bowl land on him, than if a heavy toilet AND a fresh steaming turd plus urine fell on him?

Needless to say, most U.N. operations perform as if they had toilet bowls full of feces and urine fall on their heads.

As much as it's fine and dandy to defend yourself... you didn't explain what the saying meant. I don't understand it myself.

Ever heard of bad luck?

Well just imagine someone with ton of bad luck/unfortunate events on their person/caused by themeselves or not...that really is a minor thingy.....and something else BIG going against them subsequently....(let's say bad luck follows...)

Clear enough?

Like my wife's car died on Friday (irreparably) and my car burned down to charcoal the following day....taking six other cars with it in the parking lot...
(example, that actually happened to me year and a half ago... HUH )

Amazing how those with no valid argument turn to name calling so soon.

Gee, what a wonder legends "left wing brain" didnt understand it either...
I guess " they did not teach what a metaphor is in Canada" either....

Amazing how the bad behavior is aimed at normal forum members time and time again, but not the devs....

Aw well, at least the forum has an ignore command, shame though the forum keeps tipping into the web....

----------
As for the topic, seems the U.N. has put off actual action til june now.And they havent managed to decide how much money, aid, and men they are going to commit to this "failure to be yet".

Too bad they cant simply give the money to Somalia under the terms that the government use it to hire something like Executive Outcomes to go in take a shot at it.

TM (Ghost) wrote:I wouldn't think your little washed right-wing piece of brain would understand...n/m I understood it just fine. I was more curious as to what language had invented such a poorly worded idiom. Perhaps the sarcasm of questioning the literal meaning of the saying went over your head?

How many languages do you speak...??? 1.5 I speak enough Spanish to get my point across in most situations.

It's actually from Europe..where did I give you an impression I'm from a third world coutry???
Where did I say that you were from a third world country? Since most parts of the world manage to construct buildings which include safety features like not having toilets fall on your head, my point of view was that whoever originally created this saying might have been dealing with some antiquated building codes and/or substandard building materials. Although I must say, it will not take too many more years of Europe bending over and grabbing it's ankles every time the Muslims demand it, and "third world"/"Europe" will have become synonymous.

Oh...right you just assumed that not beign from US (I actually live in US as well..) I must be from third-world country....hmm...how predictable of you....well guess what....your right wing just lost...is loosing BIG today. We would have lost whether Obama or McCain won the election. I wonder if you spend your daily life in such a stressed out, belligerent state of mind? You should probably have your blood pressure checked.

That is a methaphorical saying...well I guess they did not teach you what metaphor is in Texas...it does not have a 'literal' meaning....go put your cowboy boots on and chew some tobacco while you're rounding up your cattle... So... in the same post you trash me for making assumptions about where you are from, and then trash me again with worn out cliche's because of where I am from? You really will have to try a bit harder to insult me than that. Khan does better even during finals.
Back on topic. The U.N. doesn't solve any crises or problems because it is not in business to solve them. It is in business to steal money intended for solving problems. If the problems go away, so does the money. In truth it isn't that simple, but that is the core issue behind the surface incompetence of U.N. endeavors.

The moments I called you names, I had solid reasons.

Also, what's wrong with being a cowboy and chewing tobacco? I'd take on the hardship of being an armed shepherd on clear air on horseback anytime than this dreary urban scape. And I'd be disowned if caught smoking.

Khan,

I know my friend. You can get a bit emotional at times, but as you said, you try to stick to the boundaries of an argument, not start talking trash simply because of what country I am from.

Well, look at that .A "small" combined Rwandan-Congolese force caused General Nkunda to flee back to Rwanda where he was than captured.

He ran originally from a force of 4k Rwandan troops that were granted permission to cross the border and help Congo. And as the Rwandan and Congolese forces joined up, he ran further right back across the border.

Word is some of the rebels under his command in different regions of Congo, have already surrendered and some even have defected and joined the Congolese army.(Score one fo BGs defection system :-( ) ( )
