QUestoin about business sectors, and cities

Post by bob12333 »

Why can't i build business sectors, cities, megacities metropolises and tourist attractions? In the real world this is possible. For example Saudia Arabia is building cities/ megacities because its regular cities are so over populated. I've played as India in 1949 sandbox and for 7 years i didn't have any corporate tax or small business tax and no business sector was created!

I agree that tourist and business facilities should be buildable. However with one caveat - at full speed (financing) they should take 10-15 years to build and should cost a lot. They represent long term investments of the countries that have them. For example Switzerland has business facilities because of their focus and detail in banking. Paris has many tourist attractions because of their cultural policies in the last several hundred years. UAE example shows you can also do it much faster too. Such occurances are rare but not unprecedented. Still I think such facilities should be really costy and demand a lengthy road to build as they represent extensive infrastructure, investment and cultural or business development and insight.

The effects of these facilities is quite significant. The original design was that, when certain conditions in a region were met, that you could build them. The facilities got in, but the opportunities to add more did not. We felt it important to place restrictions so you didn't suddenly build 8 tourist attractions at the bottom tip of Argentina or in Northern Siberia.

Oh okay how can I override this? Cause as I said before i've played for 7/ more years with little to no corporate tax and no business sectors have formed! I would love to build tourist sectors, megacities/ metropolises, cities, business sectors, etc.

If you mod the equipment file, you can make those facilities buildable. That would be the only way to do it.

Open default.unit and change the value of NoBuild from 1 to 0 on the item you want to be buildable. Recompile and it should be buildable. You can refer to the guide on recompiling on the wiki
mikeownage has made a tool that might make it less likely to break the file and find what value to change as there are a lot of them but from what I can tell it is missing a search function.
Building are somewhere around ID21000 and down.
Sorry I cannot be more specific but I am writing from memory and a copy of default.unit that I have on my laptop. I do not have a game to test it on myself right now.

is that where the nobuild section is? Its alittle confusing in my honest opinion because it isn't lined up with the headers.

oh okay. Do you know if he has a mac version or if the version he created would work on mac. I also don't understand how to recache. I've visited the modding guide a bunch of times. From what I understand the game recaches it self. But how don't understand what I need to do besides change the 1 to a 0 in the default.unit file to be able to build business sectors in the game? What step am I missing that I wish was simplified on the 'modding guide'.
