Steam Workshop Support

Post by George Geczy »

As mentioned in our discord threads, we're working on adding Steam Workshop support to the next SRU update. (Shhhh keep it secret, we haven't announced it yet!)

For mods and modders that you'd like to see as available on the day zero launch of the update, we're putting together information on this, feel free to add comments below. We can make sure modders get advance access to load up their mods and test workshop before the general release.

In the end we've decided on two types of workshop items:
  • MAPS - these are basically new scenario/sandbox/campaigns that can contain a full, playable game like any current sandbox or scenario
  • MODS - these are modifications to the core files. In the other thread there was talk about not doing this because players can screw up their SRU install and mods can conflict with each other, but we've decided that our community is smart enough to figure this out
So MODS could be updated graphics, flags, unit meshes, etc, that would replace items in the base game. We'll need to keep an eye out for mods that may mess up the game or conflict with others, but again hopefully players can understand that there is some "buyer beware" in installing a mod item.

Feel free to add comments or suggestions.

I do not use any mods. But kudos for continuing to improve the game and adding options.

I'm adding some notes in the Modding thread about the capabilities of the Steam Workshop modding in the next update, be sure to take a peek if you're interested.
